Hi All...Soory that it may seem like a stupid question here, but how the heck do you adjust a headlight on an fj80? I've never had this problem before on any of my other cars but it seems like I'm having a "moment" here.

The headlight has 2 levels on them, for the up & down and the other for side to side....but I can't seem to locate the screws to adjust them?

Any input will be great!! I feel like the village idiot right now...Thanks ya'll!!

I actually think it is covered in the owners manual, in the section about replacing lights bulbs, not 100% sure though.

Here you go:

I am having issues with the PS HIR LOW beam I just did today the light is way too high up from level and spread all weird instead of concentrated.

The BOLT C in the diagram in this thread is somewhat hard to get to since its between the metal framing and the headlight. Do I just throw a box wrench on it or try to get pliers in there?

Are you sure the bulb is seated properly? Sounds like it maybe not seated right moving the bulb in the housing to a incorrect focus area.

I was thinking of this the whole way to the bank today.. I'll check that
Thanks!

CONFIRM.. the bulb wasn't seated right (needed a mm or two more of trimming, all is well now.

I have no FS manual...

Hi guys,

Since I have no FSM, please bear with my question: Is it sorrect for me to assume that bolt A regulates the height on the high beam and C adjusts the height of the low beam?

As I was tinkering with it yesterday I realized that bolt A is really a right angle drive for an actuator at the bottom of the beam. I realized this as I was tunring bolt A and noticed some grinding, so I removed the whole headlamp assy only to find out the gears on the rightangle drive gearbox were now crumbs of brittle plastic. Shame on Toyota for accpting such cheap quality for a part like this! In any case I used some pliers to turn the actuator until my low beam reached the correct height, of course it took some trial and error and several cycles of fitting and unfitting the headlamp assy.

So, if my assumption is correct about bolt A being for high beam and C for low, then why did this happen? And realted to this, not to highjack the thread, but is there any way to get those right angle drives used in good confition without having to buy the whole headlamp?

Thanks in advance...

In case anybody is interested I was able to restore the right angle drives used to adjust the headlights. It was not cheap as I had to have the gears redone from scratch. It was 60 USD per side but at the same time much cheaper than buying new headlamps. Please see photos below

You can get a set of Depos for $200 now days

Hi Duggy,

Thanks for your comment. I had also considered it but In my case being in South America it would be plus shipping plus taxes and then since I have an LX from what I understand I would have to change the radiator grill.

In this part of the world we have to be more resourceful due to these limitations. All the best,

Understood! I was previously browsing on my mobile device (iPhone) which does not show the location. I know shipping probably would have killed the deal for you along with converting the grill.

I have installed Depos, but they do not have the level bubbles for adjustment as per the FSM. Can someone tell me for a given distance away from a wall, what hight should to top of the light be projecting? The Depos are awesome, BTW!!! Great cutoff, but I just want to be sure that they are properly adjusted to not blind anyone coming at me.
Thanks!:)
