Anyone try a jet chip?..I have a 91 fj80 and was thinking about it..

or you can prolly just run it without a thermostat and accomplish the same thing...(you'll need that $300 for gas;))

it'll have more seat of the pants and it will chug chug chug even more gas...

PS: I forgot to add it's only got 8.1:1 compression... Up that and you prolly won't be hunting anymore power mods... That and the base timing would prolly work with the stock computer tolerances... maybe...

PPS: The low compression lends itself well to being Turboed;)

Can you Turbo a 3FE?

If she runs good, just sit back and enjoy the ride. Take some patients. Your NOT going to get great MPG out of her. But she will take you anywhere. I went from a stage 4 dinan m3 coupe to the LC. Overtime I just grew to relax on the road and make my own pace ;P.

Or just do what everyone else has done, myself included....learn to appreciate how much power the engine actually has and not worry about 0-60 times.

Ditto!!!!

Chips can work pretty good.... on a newer car. The very early EFI cars and trucks were not made with tuning in mind.

I was thinking maybe I'd go the route of the Bentley Brooklands engine. (Look it up. Now.)

:D

Best money spent on a 3FE is a on a big stereo so you can better enjoy the ride.

You all keep poking fun at lack of power. I drove back from the city today and was doing 75 very comfortably. Yea, she boggs down on the hills, but who cares. It's a 6000 pound steel box. If you want to go really fast and have great handling and get great gas mileage, drive a motorcycle.

Do you have heavy military 37's attached to your axles? ;)

Really that is the only reason i'm getting a regear, I don't mind the lack of power that much just the constant downshifting to keep it at speed if a 2 degree hill pops up :grinpimp:

He speaks a profound truth.

Preach it, brotha's! AAAMEN! :D

FWIW, I was doing 75 easily on the way home from SLC last night. And had some good passing power, 75 to 82 fairly quickly.

small tires will do that for ya ;)

Ok ok...from a moron who has spend a lot of money trying to making Toyota engines make decent power (22R's with sidedrafts, cam, Wiesco pistons, headers, 3VZE's with everything I could find at the time, headers, big bore throttle body, maintenance engine rebuild) I think anyone who tries to hot-rod a 3FE from a silly K&N (seriously?) to a chip is really throwing good $$$ after bad $$$.

A 2FE with a turbo would be that way to go if one was really serious...but think about that...really think about it...it's a total PITA (or not if you're excited about it) but in the end you're spending TONS of time and money on it. If anyone is really unimpressed with a 3FE's power (can you say power and 3FE in the same sentence?) turbo it or toss it in the junk pile and swap something else under that hood. But do yourself a favor and don't by any hi-po air filter or chip, or gears to try to compensate for a motor that was not engineered to do jack s*** other than run. Boys, I'm sure you'll all be pissed at me for dissen that motor, but really, it's about as far from anything we could really call Toyota as any of their engines could be. Pushrods? Seriously? I'm surprised it's so advances as to be OHV.

So stop complaining and enjoy the mostly reliable, albeit slow ride that is afforded by your low-tech, low powa 3FE rigs.

Gosh...I just re-read that it seems a little harsh...so my apologies in advance, but I'm NOT re-writing it either!

It may not be a "Toyota" engine, but it definitely is a LandCruiser engine. ;)

Hopefully in a month, I'll be one more member of the elite 2FE club :grinpimp: (not turboed + intercooled through)

I'm looking for a decent set of 38's. Does that count? :hillbilly:

I know someone selling some... but I think shipping would be a
b:mad:tch

Very cool...I was in the 20R 22R club...:-( it wasn't as elite as I thought it would have been.

Dang it RocDoc...pressure feed that thing man! Stuff it full of 6PSI worth of intercooled intake pressure!
