Ok ok...from a moron who has spend a lot of money trying to making Toyota engines make decent power (22R's with sidedrafts, cam, Wiesco pistons, headers, 3VZE's with everything I could find at the time, headers, big bore throttle body, maintenance engine rebuild) I think anyone who tries to hot-rod a 3FE from a silly K&N (seriously?) to a chip is really throwing good $$$ after bad $$$.
A 2FE with a turbo would be that way to go if one was really serious...but think about that...really think about it...it's a total PITA (or not if you're excited about it) but in the end you're spending TONS of time and money on it. If anyone is really unimpressed with a 3FE's power (can you say power and 3FE in the same sentence?) turbo it or toss it in the junk pile and swap something else under that hood. But do yourself a favor and don't by any hi-po air filter or chip, or gears to try to compensate for a motor that was not engineered to do jack s*** other than run. Boys, I'm sure you'll all be pissed at me for dissen that motor, but really, it's about as far from anything we could really call Toyota as any of their engines could be. Pushrods? Seriously? I'm surprised it's so advances as to be OHV.
So stop complaining and enjoy the mostly reliable, albeit slow ride that is afforded by your low-tech, low powa 3FE rigs.
Gosh...I just re-read that it seems a little harsh...so my apologies in advance, but I'm NOT re-writing it either!
