During recent trips of (+40 miles) could hear low singing from front end - which is different from the H42 singing in 4th. :) LOL. Going to replace the front bearings, noticed driver's side spindle is slightly dis-colored. So mudders, should spindle be replaced or OK to let it ride? Thanks in advance.

Spoke with Cruiser Outfitters about the "heat" marks. If any kind groove is present, replace. Just the heat mark, up-to-the owners discretion. Going to pull passenger side apart and see what it looks like. At this time, leaning towards replacement.

I would not replace that just based on color. I don't see any grooves that would catch your fingernail (a typical test method). I would replace the bearings and run with it.

Thanks Steve. I will double check the spindle for any groove. I have been known to be a penny wise and a pound foolish. :bang:

Looks like the bearings were starting to spin, but you caught the issue before it caused significant wear. From the picture it looks like a change in surface texture, not colour

When reassembling make sure to get the pre-load correct, at the top of the range for new bearings.

Thanks E-Overland, will do. :)

I would definately run that without hesitation - mine never looked any different.

You can go over it with a Scotch Brite pad or Emery cloth, if you want. But it looks okay.

Can't quite tell from the picture but is there a groove in the surface for the inner grease seal?
