-started to figure out cluster setup (60vs62 and 12v vs 24v)
I've been thinking about the 12v vs 24v thing as well, I would try to make it all 12v, if given the opportunity. I've been driving my HJ for over a year and it's been a pain to wire up the aftermarket acc. (stereo, cb, ham,)

the hj rad is toast, my options are re core, new aftermarket, new oem, or source used(rare)
the 2h rad vs the 3fe rad look the same except the top hoses are on different sides for the 2h
my 62 rad is still in good shape

does any one know if you can switch side the top intake port on a rad??

I don't know if the rads are the same size (thickness) but if they are, I would take both rads to a shop and get them to make what you need. In theory, you should be able to take the tanks off your HJ and put them onto your FJ... in theory.

lil update, day 8
i went to the shop right afterwork and i got some done but lots of people came by (matt(cdn_cruzer), brad(landblazer) and his son and roger(regor) and i was a little side tracked.

-put in place hj harness into the fj
-pull fj and hj tcase, put new bearing on rear output

im heading over right now, i will install the tcase on 2h, then i got to work on clean the side of the block, maybe a little paint on it too, re-route at cooler lines and install shifers on a/t. i still have the fuel tanks as well and fishing wiring the fj up.

ok day 9
got a little bit done today

installed tcase.
gathered enuf line pieces to make cooler lines
started pulling fj tank
readied 4lo shifter

feels like i did very little but im still moving forwards

id like to know what psi the oil coolers lines run, as well as the p/s steering lines if anyone knows?

(ps sorry to those i told not to come by today,i really needed to put good hours in.)

This build looks vaguely familiar, only at 50X the speed (and a garage!)

it feels like this is taking forever, but i see a glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel. i read some of your right up, and sent you a pm.

day 10-11

installed/ plugd in main dash harness.
installed 24v doodads in kick panel,
24v sensors, switches, motors...
started to reconfigure dash.
fj petrol tank dropped
cooler lines configured
fix a/t shifter stud + new a/t shifter seal ;)
power steering lines configured(still need to mount the reservoir)
wiper motor switched to 24v
hacked off rear spare tire carrier and unbolted tank(still not droppped)

i still gots LOTS to do.

day12...
pulled hj tank
clean tensionners and tighten belts.
pulled rear heater to swap...
hooked up a a/t cooler line...

not much but i had to leave early for family dinner since my brothers bday. i do have tomorow off so ill get a full day in. motor should be going in within next few days :)

and i case if anyone has been following; the adapter plate for the mercedes diesel to stock 4runner 5speed is complete, new mounts are being fabbed and this project should be on the road around the same time as me

That is one fugly adaptor plate. Grind those edges man, it looks like it spent a year in a bionic hampster cage.

uhhhmmm,
kinda embarased now that you mention it. that was a test fit. this was made with a torch, welder and drill. very simple.

here are as it sits infront of the truck, ready to go in??(flywheel at a machine shop...)

i looked and some are obviously cut and capped.
how important is the venting system for the diesel tank??

ok so little update this is taking way too long, but still moving forwards.

interior including dash, ignition(!) and lights are all assembled.
tank vent fixed (swaped with hj60 one)
motor is in but...

i got my 3fe rad modified for the 2h, the fill spout and top hose outlet were cut and swaped side at a radiator shop

to do: cooling system, exhaust, throttle hook-up, ground cables, install water seperator, fill tcase/tranny, oil change? fill tank...

and i found someone who might trade me a 24v 18000lbs warn winch for my 12v m12000

(my buddy has the mercedes diesel installed in his 4runner, mounted to the stock 5speed, its not coming back out)

its alive!!! no time to write... havent taken it for a drive yet

oooo, do tell when you do get the chance to putter about in it.

TODAY!!! i just drove it, and went on the highway :)
i put in a straight pipe back and holy; it sounds like a angry warthog.
i am driving up north this weekend

how did you measure the bolt patterns for your adapter plate?? from the center of the crank??

as for the 4runner, she is alive and already up north. the measure were done with tape, crayon and a piece of cardboard...(hehe little more complicated then that)

ok final run down:

1986 2h 24volt motor (a440f) into 89 fj62
hj60 frame tabs and motor mount welded into fj62 chasis
24v main harness pulled from hj then instaled in 62
*including ignition, motors, sensors, switches and relays...(and clock)
gauges cluster adapted to 62 interior
62 throttle cable use with custom hook up
62 rad modified to fit 2h
swap gas tanks and fill nozzle (and swapped/cleaned up vent system for tank)
rewire headlight harness
rebuilt transfer case
staight pipe to the back with a flex pipe 1/2 way

(some body work)
some frame paint
some motor clean/paint

hangups:
rad -modded at rad shop
broken a/t shifter(knob coming out of trans) -welded
ignition - dremal tool required (msg me if you ever have to do this)
not having a second 2h motor mount (thx roger x100000)

no more radio
no more power doors
no more headlight washers

down time 28 days( which about 7days were cleaning/dickin around days)
first gas tank 83L @ 591km = 16.75mpg or 14L/100km (no tune up)

cost
100$ for rad
20$ flex pipe
40$ tools/ supplies and fluids
40|$ one 2h motor mount
100$ beer ( i dont drink much)
and a 1986 hj60

2hrs of perma-grin after first staring engine
3hrs of sh!t eating grin on maiden voyage up north)

bugs: no headlights yet, nor cluster lights, high idle after driving in P due to old throttle linkage parts

your still grining bro lol
its alan btw
i helped with both the hj62 swap and the 4runner swap
that adapter plate wasnt to hard to make
started with a rough cut of the benz side and then found center
of the toyota 4runner tranny and marked out the holes for the bell housing, had to notch the plate for the starter.
toyota flywheel had to be redrilled for the benz crank.
lol fyi benz motor mounts will not take the abuse of 4lo :hhmm:

o and we made some more progress on the 62 today still havent figured out the damn headlights tho i hate wiring

Excellent! Get some pictures of it mounted in it's new home!

The HJ had some sort of 12V tap for the headlights. The lamps are 12V, which always confused me on a 24V rig. BTW, ground completes the circuit, this is a deal breaker for me, can't seem to get my head around that.

well when i get un-lazy and decide to talk awalk down to the shop again ill take a look at the headlight issue. i wanna trace all the wires coming out of the inverter, its currently not even gettin power to the fuse panel. also i had to splice the headlight harness so he could keep the quad headlights..... i am in no means a wiring fan:mad: ......
