FJ62 Fuel Tank Recall Woes

Local Toyota dealer just told me they can't complete recall on 89 FJ62 due to disco parts. Anybody actively pursuing this still and what is your experience if so? They offered a buy back to which I politely declined. My tank is fine but since my vin shows it's never been done I thought it would be cool to have a new tank on Toyota's dime.

I wish that was the case, @cruisermatt told me he uses some secret sauce on the 60 tanks to achieve that. I did direct the service advisor to his website and he didn't say no right off the bat so fingers crossed.

No surprise Toyota wouldn’t use Matt’s tanks so I guess FJ62 owners are SOL on that.

60 series gas tanks are still being done on the recall if they haven't been done already

Seriously. Seems like if they can still make the tank they could cut an extra hole in it, but what do I know

I'm sure that the real reason is the one is still available is purely overall global demand - the vast majority of 60 series production is carb and diesel, and it was only the last few years that more folks are spending real serious money on FJ62's.

60 and 62 tanks are the same size and shape, only difference is it has the mount for the in tanks fuel pump assembly versus the pick up assembly for carbed and diesel rigs

I was thinking that the 3FE was only used for 3 years in the US and maybe a few other markets versus the carbed 3F and diesel being able to use a pick up assembly. as stated the global market is vast for that tank versus the 62 tank
