Hi there - I'm new to the forum, so greetings everyone. I recently fell in love with FJ60's, and was pointed here. Created this account to help facilitate a purchase, and then share all of the upcoming adventures and upgrades.

I'm looking for a rust-free FJ60 with either low miles or a recent rebuild (or priced appropriately so I can either rebuild or swap in a diesel).

Also - this will be my daily driver - however I only put about 8-10K miles on my cars per year. So, naturally I'm looking for more of a stock or overland-type rig, and something with a more modest theme.

I can go either way whether or not the rig is built up or not. Part of me wants to borrow your expertise and buy already built, and another part wouldn't mind taking my time to do it myself.

My budget is $5-10K (with some room north for the right FJ60), and upwards of $15K for something really special.

Please let me know if you find anything in your area. I'm willing to fly almost anywhere to pick it up and drive it home, but preferably within a 1 day drive of Phoenix. Like I posted on another thread here - An excess of airline miles + my love for road trips = a very fun FJ60 buying experience!

Thanks in advance for your help and advice everyone. I've been lurking here for a few days now, and everyone here has already helped so much by sharing their experience and knowledge!

Cheers!

Andrew

Welcome! It sounds like you have honorable goals. You are going to need to start with one of these:

I see them occasionally. Usually in the Southwest and usually at the upper end of what you are talking about...8 to 15k or more.

Thanks so much MDarius! The color on the first looks nice - should i be worried about the visible rust? Is that an issue to fix with a new paint job and the body repair that goes with it?

The second one looks like it would be fantastic with new paint. And the 3rd looks very clean - all three would be amazing after a few grand in work - which I'm certainly not against doing.

What are your thoughts on this?

Forgive my questions - especially since I'd imagine these have been asked before. It seems though that what people are willing to sell these for and pay for them changes quite a bit!

Yeah, THAT'S along the price for features I would expect. That's a great looking truck.

It's my truck. Nothing is going on under the hood. eBay doesn't allow very many pictures. The exterior and interior are a great representation of what's under the hood. Read the eBay description for all new parts that have been upadated or replaced under the hood. It drives like a dream.

Congratulations to your sister! That's great! I'm jealous.

I'm in 29 palms ca. Budget a little higher if something warrants. FJ will be registered in Texas. Did you end up finding something? Thanks

Hey Andrew,
Might I add some advice that will save you much heartache and trouble?

I was in the same boat as you. For 6 months I searched for a mystical bargain FJ60 that would be a good start that just needed some TLC. What I have learned is, 60's demand a premium. If you look for anything south of $7k, chances are you are in for much heartache and disappointment. So many surprises of trucks riddled with rust or missing this or that and if it was an easy fix, the owner would just fix it.

My last attempt to purchase a $5k cruiser ended with more issues than I wanted to deal with and after putting parts and numbers to paper, I'd be in the truck another $5-6k from just issues at hand before really diving into.

I'm not saying there aren't deals out there, but from what you listed, you'll have to aim higher.

I'm reading his first post like his budget might be around 10-15.
Do you think that's a good place to start? Asking bc I'm looking too and although I know these will always need some work - I want something close to the done side and think 12500-20000 might get that. New here so apologies if it's poor form to jump on another's wanted thread. Thank you, sarah 7608802456

Hey there everyone thank you all for the help and advice! I found exactly what I was looking for, and the buying experience was fun as hell. Hopped on a plane with cash and bought it on site. Did a roadside mechanics check of fluids and all the other standard things with a portable tool kit and then had my mechanic look it over after purchase - needed very little and has performed flawlessly on some challenging AZ trails. It's the one showcased on the website www.everythingfj60.com

Thanks again, and good luck to everyone else looking! This forum is a wealth of knowledge to find out what to look for.

Can't find anything past 2015 on there - which one did you get? Awesome.

I ended up finding it on the San Diego Craigslist site. I had alerts set up in pretty much every city west of the Mississippi, and once the right one came up I bought a plane ticket right away after speaking with the owner.

I actually did test drive about 7 different trucks in 3 states before I finally pulled the trigger.

If you're patient and know exactly what you want you'll find it.
