i put two Rain-X Latitudes 18" on front of my rig.....and a regular 16"wiper on rear. ORdered rear from CCOT......two front I got from local parts store. My only issue is for some reason I have the hook attachment on drivers side....and the pin on passenger so a little pain in the a$$....but they work GREAT!

I'm guessing these are the OEM windshield wiper arms I have on my FJ62? Does it matter if I use OEM Toyota wipers blades or is there a high quality reproduction?

I've always been most satisfied wit OEM wiper blades and inserts.
I tried others, but kept the OEM stuff so I could switch back.
Toyota refills fit best on the Toyota blades. Don't toss the metal splines...
Some day it may be time to try the 4Runner wiper arm swap (there's a thread on it), especially as parts become unobtainium.

Cool Cruisers has Toyota OEM wiper blades for sale. I'll just buy those. Thanks.

No regrets with the 4Runner swap here. Still Yota quality with updated wiper blades.

What W blades are you running ?

I got the 4 runner arms upgrade, but to blades upgrade yet.

Yeah no regrets with the 4Runner upgrade for me either. Currently running NAPA brand blades and they do a good job. Someone in another thread commented on the SilBlades are supposed to be awesome. I have only had the upgrade for a year and been running the NAPAs the entire time. When they die I will probably upgrade to the SilBlades.

What year 4Runner arms are used for this upgrade? I'll let the OEM Toyotas I ordered die and then look into the upgrade.

I just received my new 4-Runner wiper arms from American Toyota. They're for the '96 - '99 models. Two LH arms and bolt covers.

Arms: 85221-35080 (2 ea.)
Covers: 85192-12800 (2 ea.)

I haven't installed them yet.

the 4runner upgrade is hands down the best way to go. I had new fj60 arms, blades and inserts on, but still not happy....the 4runner stuff is a BIG improvment

OEM appropriate blades for the front 4Runner arms and Bosch blades for the 80 series rear arm supplied by @beno (pic of rear items attached).

I ordered Toyota blades for up up front mostly to get rid of whatever the PO had rigged up. I was disappointed with the oem. They skipped and jumped in all but the heaviest rain. I messed around with adjusting them thinking the arm wasn't positioned right. I finally bought some latitudes and they wipe smoothly and cleanly.

Does anyone have pictures of the 4Runner arms mounted to the splined drives on a 60? I have the wiper arms from the correct year 4Runner, but they do not fit.

My 4Runner arms base, where the spline hole is, is recessed on the bottom and covers the rubber boot on the splined shaft mount. This recessed base creates 2 problems on my 9/85 60:

1) The recessed arm base fits tightly over thestock 60 plaster/rubber splined shaft boot, and will likely move with the wipers. Do others who have done the 4Runner arms have the same issue?

2) On the cowl where the wiper splined shaft mounts there is a plastic trim cap. The hole in the trim plate is not centered on the splined shaft. When I mount the 4Runner arms, the recessed arm base will not go on without removing the plastic trim piece. I could modify it, but would prefer not to.

Any pictures would be great.

Thanks

The recessed part is below where the mounting nut sits.

only pic I have handy

Thanks, I was looking at some old posts and found a picture of the cowl plastic trim. The picture shows it is 2 pieces - an outer thin trim ring, and the main body with the hole for the wiper drive.

Is that what you have? Mine only has the big plastic trim piece with the splined rive hole in it. No ring out piece.

Here is the picture I found here on mud for the 4Runner arm swap that shows both plastic trims.

I am grabbing new blades tonight @doug720 as we have the next set of storms starting on Thursday night and I need new blades. I will post up for you. I never had the plastic covers that cover the bolts on the cowl as they were both broken when I first got the truck and subsequently flew off during driving in high winds one day.

Maybe that's the way everyone is running the 4Runner arms - without the trim piece?

I could not find one picture showing that area withe the 4Runner arms mounted.

Think that many of us run into the problem that I had where they were broken in the first place and not really staying then they would "disappear".

The parts fiche says there should be two pieces, 85178-90A00, Cap, Wiper Pivot No. 1 (85188) and 85247-90A01, Cap, Wiper Pivot No. 2 (87188A). I have both sitting at home in a box waiting for motivation to install. I don't recall having a problem with the 4 Runner arm on the passenger side, but definitely did with Pivot No.2 interfering on the drivers side. I assumed it was because it was old and cracked (and subsequently fell off). I'll try to take a look at the new parts tonight and see if they fit any better.

I just found the both sets of new cover and ordered them. We'll see how it all fits???

I'm also rebuilding the wiper linkage with spherical bearings (Heim joints) so I will have...hopefully, really good wipers when I'm finished!
