I thought it would be a problem. I would love to stick a 4BT in my 72 but figured I'd never get it though inspection.

Kevin

I guess you could tag it as a antique car with self inspection.

Just wondering will PA give you any problems with changing a gas engine to a diesel?

Kevin

Typically, the original vehicle is tested to the standards of what equipment was originally on it. However, when you swap from gas to diesel, you basically take yourself out of the emissions program because diesel vehicles are exempt in PA. But, since Jeff has it titled in KY, who cares? :D

Jeff, you live outside of an official emissions county, right? Which means you only get the Safety sticker. Part of the Safety inspection now is a visual inspection of the emissions components, though, but, once again, as far as I know, diesel is exempt. I'll double check and let you know.

But now that it's diesel, it may be practical to retitle it in PA. I'll do a little research today and get back to you, Jeff.

The vehicle was originally a grey-market, right? meaning it was originally sold in a foreign country and manufactured to their standards? Then imported here, then engine swapped . . . whee!

Can't wait to see this truck on Saturday, should perform well and be torquey as hell :D

What year is it again?

I think you may have an easier time than you think since it's not grey market.

Also, what county do you live in?

Okay, you're not in an emissions county, which means you get no IM sticker, just a Safety sticker. However, a visual inspection of the emission components is now part of all Safety inspections in the non-IM counties. I'm willing to bet that if you talk to the garage that does your Safety inspections, and let him know it's a diesel swap, he'll probably be understanding.

You could probably transfer the title and ownership out of Kentucky with very little hassle since it's not a grey-market vehicle and keep the registration simple--no special designations.

Do you know what, if any, emissions equipment the diesel truck came with originally?

a cat...... which I have none. Thanks for looking into it... I think that an inspector not able to verify the visual existence of the 2F smog stuff for '87 as listed in his book would not pass it unless he really does not care at all and is willing to put his name on the sticker even in the event a state trooper pulls me over, realizes the conversion, and takes action. My experiences so far in PA dictate it be licensed in KY to avoid problems... since there is no law or regulation exempting diesel swaps, though there should be : )

Okay, that could complicate things. I could give you some more advice, but not here. :D
