which tie rod ends brand to go with -------- ccot or Curt's or OEM -- just wondering because one was only replaced for some reason - any body with good luck :hhmm::hhmm::hhmm:
 
OEM are best, but $$$. Japanese 555 brand are very good (what I used - from Kurt). Joint Fuji are supposed to be OEM, but I can't verify that - about $160 for a set, only SOR sells them
 
I went with the Japanese 555 from Cruiser Outfitters. Not sure if they are available yet after the earthquake.
 
When I asked Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters at the end june, they were back order. I send him an email this week to see if he got some now, but haven't heard from him yet.
 
If Kurt is out, try Mark at Mark's Off Road - He has them in stock.

If you go with OEM, they come with tie rods, at least that was the case for my '85 FJ60. I think toyota changed the threaded length on the end and then have to provide a new rod. So I have new tie and relay rods, with new ends installed, plus one each extra new tie and relay rods. If you have a lot of rust, and/or might be bending one or both on a trail some day, this might be something to think about. It will be more expensive at first, though.

Kurt answered me back:

We are still back-ordered on those kits, my fingers are crossed we see them on our next air shipment from Japan due in about 2 weeks but as of today we still don't have a confirmation they are going to be shipping.

No they dont list a name on them but when I got the package it had 555 all over it. Give them a call and ask just to be sure, but I dont think you will find a better deal. Just so you know, I have no affiliation with them, just happy with their product.
 
Are you talking about the tie rod itself the long part? if so just wire wheel it down and paint it how rusty got a pic we all love pics

If you order the rods, you get OEM ends for free......or maybe other way around. still more than 555 or fuji, which I have used aND was happy.
 
My Drag Link is shot but a kit Aus takes 4ever and is $40... I can get the 555 ends for $120 wldnt it just be better to replace than to rebuild?
 
The relay rod is adjustable at one end (disassemble, inspect, clean, grease, reassemble). I'm not sure I understand the rest of your question.

I bought OEM tie rod ends and had to cut off part of the threaded portion, as they are longer than the ones that came on the truck and wouldn't screw easily into my tie rod. Other than that (and the price) OEM is great.

Ordered the 555 kit from Kurt... Im also doing a knuckle rebuild...new bearings is standard in a knuckle rebuild...right?

Im looking forward to my rig riding smooooth!
 
As deep as you will be in that axle with a rebuild, I would replace the wheel bearings, especially if thats never been done before or you don't know when its been done last. You can check bearing play but its prolly a waste of time. They don't change the cost of the rebuild kit that much and replacing those on mine did wonders for me. I got my knuckle rebuild from Kurt which included wheel bearings. He has a kit that includes wheel bearings and one that doesn't. With is more expensive as you might expect but he has them with a choice of either Koyo or Timken bearings. Both kits include the trunnion/knuckle bearings though. He can also source either the OEM inner axle seal or the Marlin crawler ECO seal if you are into that sort of thing. GL.

The "Low Range" Knuckle kit includes Koyo wheel Bearings... Good to know!!
