I know someone will say search, but ive searched untill im almost crazier. I hear some guys talk about the fj60 ps conversion, but im not familiar with the 60 series so im not real clear on how it works. Is it like the mini truck conversion where you use a bracket where the factory landcruiser gear box mounted. Any links or pics or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

no the box bolts to the outside of the frame rail near where your relay box bolts up

search www.outerlimits4x4.com for some more info

thanks guys, that helps alot. if you got some kind of magic website that can help a guy decide something, keep me in mind.

Was there no info in the FAQ?

I am going to round up the rest of the parts (have the box and the joint that mounts TO the box but need one more for the column [thanks Kurt!!]) I also need a pump that will fit my 40 (stock 60 pump isn't gonna work), some lines, pump brackets, and to lengthen the drag-link a lil. I've heard of the success stories of yesterday with this conversion and decided it was best for me.

There is Lots of information on this forum about most power steering conversions for your 40.

Saginaw- mounts inside the drivers side frame rail in front of the cross member. Offers the most power assist, for SBC the steering shaft can be a bit tight depending on engine placement, but it fits and people like the assist for larger tires and lockers. Some feel that the saginaw box doesn't provide enough feedback while steering.

FJ60/Scout- mounts outside the drivers side frame rail just in front of the shock tower. Has more "feedback" than the saginaw box, but not as much power. (the scout box is suppose to be stronger). Seems to do well on 35" and under tires. Slightly less issues with steering linkage clearances and SBC exhaust manifolds/headers.

The mini-truck style is close to factory power steering. All the linkages are maintained, and the power steering box replaces your manual box. Should require the least amount of "fabrication".

You can also use the Astro box but I am unfamiliar with it.
BUT you can read about it here: http://www.ih8mud.com/tech/astro-ps.php

In case you didn't find this link while you were searching...

If you have any specific FJ60 PS ask away.

in aus we have a severe lack of sagi stuff, so the bulk of our 40 conversions use the 60 series stuff, and there are a heap of guys running up to 38's on it without too much issue... but then again, maybe aussies have stronger arms :grinpimp:

The FJ60 box is plenty strong enough for 38sx15s and maybe larger (depending on how you use the rig).

The "Scout box" IS a saginaw and is just as powerful as the "GM intermediate car" saginaw box that has been used forever in Cruiser conversions.

Properly located both of these provide much more clearance for engines and for winches. They do usually have more suspension clearnace concerns however.

Thanks for the clarification, one less thing to worry about when I go with bigger tires!
