I've never actually seen a set of those tires in action. How do they do on the trail? I would think they would do well in the mud, but how are they for hill climbs and rocks? If I could get a cheap set, I would love to take my tire groover to them. It seems like you could drastically improve their performance with a some grooving/siping.

the tires make a quick clean in the mud, does not make your truck all dirty like the m/t tires( see the pick up truck),i really don´t know for rock use, but for trail or expedition use its a nice choice, good load range also and i believe they also came tubeless

What size are those tires? The title says 9x16 but I'm guessing thats your rims? Look bitchin tho, I want a set. Where'd you pick them up?

Tires
but you can read here, the owner of the diesel he use 16 x 7 rims

9.00x16 is a metric size...either write 9.00 or 900...michelin makes a nice 900r16 also

9.00 size tires fit right onto stock toyota rims...they are skinny and tall...as stated... 36"

here is a XZL michelin 9.00r16 36" radial mud tire...also a pic of a XL michelin 9.00r16 on an fj45 with stock toyota split rims...i forget who's rig this is

those micheline are cool !! i know that the fj40 rims steel style are 15 ¨..but this company stockton wheels they can made any rims according with your needs. The ideal rim for 9.00 should be 6.5 wide, according with the inf above.

9.00 R16 is not a metric size!!! It is an old school SAE size. It has a 9.00" section width and a 1x1 aspect ratio. In the metric sizes it would be approximately a 225 100r16.

The 9.00 R16 predates WWII and during the war was used on Dodge WC 3/4 ton trucks as well as many trailers.

The 9.00 R16 Michelins are out of production, now and have been replaced with a Metric size that is similar. Overall, these tires are really heavy and stiff. With a per tire load limit over 4500# per tire, they are too stiff for significant off road use in any light weight vehicle.

I have 9.00 R16 XZLs on our restored 1959 Power Wagon and 11.00 R16s XLs on my WC53 Carryall. And, I still have one set of brand new XZLs in the shop. But, I wouldn't use them on a serious offroad vehicle or a truck that will be driven over 60 mph. The original Earth Roamer RV tried them out for a while, but destroyed a set because they were overheated. The tires are only speed rated for 60 mph...

Enjoy,
Dan

That NDT also is horrible on sidehills, with worse lateral instability than a Swamper. Rock hard durometer, tubed predominently, and not meant for extended high speed use. They are best for period-authenticity on old iron, and that's about it.

I had a set back about 13 years ago on SOA 60. They were made in India, forgot their name. Sidewall had 11 plyes. and extremelly heavy. On a trip I had twisted both driveshafts. They did performed horrible they are really stiff. The only good thing; could go over broken glass, even on top of a junked car and walking out with no flats. Also they were not bad at high speed (about 70mph). Have to find pictures, scan and post.

Actually Dan....when you say old school SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) size....I am assuming what you meant was the old numeric size system.

the aspect ratio of the old numeric size system that was used prior to the 1960's was 92% or lower profile 80% not 100%...military tires were assumed to be 100% because they were larger...the aspect ratio really varies from manufacturer and application...while in the US it was going from numeric to alpha-numeric (1960's)...in Europe they were going to metric...that’s were confusion in tires really came in.

The numeric (1910's?-1960's) and then alpha-numeric systems were really a poor standard.

It was wrong of me to call them metric as they are not...it has been inferred overtime that the 900 is a metric height size. 900 divided by 25.4 would be 35.5" tall....825 would be 33"....750 would be 29.5".

At the time of radials coming out in the 60's...European manufacturers were embracing metric sizes and swapping tire sizes to fit the US's DOT laws and federal laws dealing with the use of the English system and not metric as a standard…as a result some tires are clearly metric and they were labeled as inches…compounding the issue.

900 on my ex FJ60. Notice in below picture a front driveshaft missing. These tires just wrapped the tubbing like a wet towel when I was coming out of a mud hole.
