Finished adding the rest of the center section for the roof. Also put the tailgate on to see what I have to work with. Decided to change plans, I am going to hinge the roof section so it opens as well. This will solve some other problems foreseen, and it will make this side lockable using the lower 4 inches of the lift hatch. Need to make the frame for the roof section first.

coming together. What are you going to name this thing? Looks like a cruiser that got loved by two big rig 18 wheelers.

Not sure yet. Any suggestions?

Worked on the rear roof hatch. Cut the lower section of the factory lift hatch. Shaped the upper portion to fit the roof line. Also started on the frame for the roof section. Probably not the best way, but I had some angle left and decided to use that. It works and gets the job done. I was just happy I got the outer edges to match the fender lines. Next is finish welding the the frame and work on some hinges. Nice to see it all enclosed.

Well this weekend was full of hinge making, or attempts, and tongue and hitch making. The roof section hinges still need work to clear the rear of the hood. I did though get the tongue and hitch made up and couldn't resist to tow the trailer around the block. :steer: I had a grin on my face from ear to ear. :D Need to find a 7/8 hitch pin to replace the bolt I used today.
The hinges are on hold right now, this week I want to take care of a lot of other key little things to get this thing closer to road worthy.

looks like it could get tongue heavy fairly quick once you put a load in. what's your plan to balance that out? maybe fuel/water right behind the grill?

yeah I will have to experiment and watch how I load it. The spare tire will be in the factory location which is behind the axle, so that will help.

After a day of thinking and about 2 hours of determination, finally figured out the rear roof hatch and hinges. Also added some gas struts I had from another project.

More work on the rear top portion. Went ahead and shaped both sides to the hood line, flushed it into the fenders, and then added a middle section. Need to splice a rain gutter edge to the middle and work on a frame of some sort for the support of the top.

have you worked out the rain gutter solution yet? keen to see what you come up with.
Look'n good, keep up the good work.

Dave

Well the rain gutter I was refering to there was on the back section if the added middle piece of roof. As for the center section between the hood and the roof section... I have no idea yet. I had to widen the gap a little more for the roof section to hinge over the hood hump. I am open to any suggestions. I think this will be the last thing that gets finished. Maybe by then I'll have a solution.

I do have to modify the lift hatch latch for it to work going vertical instead of the factory horizontal way it latches. I am sure it won't be to hard to modify. I really haven't looked at it closely to figure something out yet.

Next is body mounts, remove the internal frame and finish welding that up, finish up welding the body together, wiring, route the hood latch cable to the gas tank filler door, then go weigh it and register it.

Still a lot to do, but all the major fabrication is done and everything functions like planned.

Got a lot done over the past few days. Mounted the body, finished welding up the internal hinge frame, wired up the trailer and cruiser with 7pin connectors, installing the hood pull latch in the fuel door compartment, redoing the rear hatch latch and lock to work with the new setup. Was able to get the lower fenders welded together. Still more body work needed, but thats fine.

Most importantly I got it inspected and registered yesterday!

Will be adding some 33's to it and wiring the other lights up this weekend along with hood lift shocks and more fine tuning of stuff.

Hey man, saw the rig at work today. Looking great, this is motivating me to work on my 416.

Thanks. It was a lot of fun towing that around yesterday. A lot of looks and questions and pictures taken. Even the state patrol inspection guys were taking pictures of it to put on their "most unusual vehicles inspected" wall. The seargent said in all her 20 years of doing this, my trailer was nothing like she had ever seen before.

Good times :D:D

Couple more pics. Was able to install hood lift struts last night. By far the easiest mod done to this thing. Works great. A little tough to close because they are 120lb struts, but when the tent goes on it will be better, might even have to go to 150lb ones. Ordering the side marker lights and tail light lenses, so will start running wire for those this weekend.
