Cold starts with efi rely primarily on the efi temp sensor and throttle position sensor and air flow meter. Problems in any one of those can cause hard starts.

Thanks, I really appreciate the feedback. I figure some more trouble shooting and I may solve this issue. If my gas pedal doesn't fall off first or starter fail.. lol. Again much love and gratitude

Have you verified that the cold start injector is spraying?

How do I check if it is spraying?

Thanks for the troubleshooting diagram. Going to screen shot these and see if I can zero in on the problem. Great way to break down possible solutions. I spoke with a guy who really knows these older Toyotas and he started off where your diagram ended. Checking the EFI electronic circuit using a volt ohmmeter. All the merrier, much appreciated advice thanks Seth

Easiest way to check spray would be to pull the injector out of the manifold, aim it into a container (wear safety glasses) and have some crank the engine for a couple of seconds and make sure its spraying fuel. If its not spraying there is a switch for it that could be faulty.

Great to hear, definitely going to try that out. Any idea where that faulty switch would be if it's not spraying and if not no biggie

Not off the top of my head but you could take a look HERE
I have an FJ60 with a carb so I'm not playing with 3FE's directly much. I have worked on plenty of other EFI systems and they are all similar to some level of degree. That link should help you identify and troubleshoot

Thanks A TON Seth. My FJ is the love of my life! If you wanna get a kick out of a blog I use to have that's pretty interesting here's the site, 88cruiserofamerica.blogspot.com. I lived out of my truck for 3 years traveling and was nothing like it til this day. Again much appreciation for your knowledge and time of the matter at hand and will let you know how things turn out.

Cheers

Looks like a lot of fun. You should start a new thread introduce yourself, post some photos and the link to the blog. The other 60 mudders on here would enjoy reading about your truck, yourself, and your adventures. And then you have your own thread to post updates to in the future

Good idea, will do, thanks a lot Seth for reaching out & just being a stand up guy. Hard to find these days..

Thanks for the information, I had a feeling the cold start temp switch might have been a bad part everytime I replaced it. These parts are notorious for going out and like you said long gone now.. doesn't hurt spending five bucks & change to find out now that I have a possible fix solution.. thanks again
