Thinking of getting a fj 60 rear axle to get an emergency brake set up as I am going to a split case transfer. Will my 1975 pumpkin fit in a fj60 axle housing? will the fj60 axle shafts fit into the fj55 differential?

So first thing to keep in mind is the width of a 60 axle is different than a 55. They are 3" wider so you are gonna have to outboard the front leaf hangars if you run 60 axles.

Yes, however, your pumpkins will fit in a 60 housing and yes the 60 shafts use 30 spline fittings so they will fit.

You can also just narrow the spring pads on the housing, much simpler than outboarding the hangers, a few ways to achieve that.

Run spacers up front. Move your fj60 spring pads in to match the 55 spring spacing. Fj60 diff is likely better that the 55 diff; just swap out the flange or drill to match the driveshaft. Use a front diff with the pinion spacer block from a rear- much less wear on front diffs usually
