Can the cap on the 4 speed knob be taken off and replaced with a 5 speed cap? Is the thread 12x1.25?

Can the cap on the 4 speed knob be taken off and replaced with a 5 speed cap? Is the thread 12x1.25?

If it's a 60 series four knob then yes. 40 series knob would work as well. It's a smaller knob with a smaller thread. The 60 series four speed is the same thread as the H55F five knob. 8/80 and the transfer case used the same thread. The 40 series four speed uses a smaller thread until the end of production.
