I am trying to transfer the title on a 1976 FJ55 that I bought. It had a clear Arkansas title but Missouri is giving me hell about it. They say that the VIN number should be 10 digits but it is only 9 digits. They are telling me that I will have to get the highway patrol to come and do an inspeciton of the VIN number. Have any of you ran into a problem like this? Vin number is FJ5560095

My '76 FJ55 is also a 9 digit VIN FJ5559423. Let the Highway Patrol check it out.

What does your second '55 have? I assume it's already titled?

The second pig went through fine the VIN number on the metal tag is FJ5557011 (9 digit) but on the Arkansas title it showed up as FJ55057011. I guess some where along the way the extra 0 was added to the title to make it come out right (10 digit).
It bugs me that everything is right on the 60095 pig but I still have to get the highway patrol to look at it. Do you know why Toyota only used 9 digit VIN numbers?

My pig had to be checked out by the local police. The tag office supplied the form. The 55 had previously been tagged in GA but it had been a while and so I guess it had fell out of the system. 9 digits...........another reason our pigs are so unique:pig:

I've imported a ton of cruisers from AU and always had the police verify the VIN before I went to the RMV. It;s a very simple process. Usually the cops are bored and they love checking out odd trucks. It's usually a fun interaction. get the visual inspection otherwise it'll be more headaches down the road.

MA has a problem with anything shorter than the stadard 17 or 18 whatever digits

The Highway Patrolman came to my house this evening, he said he was not allowed to fill out the form the DMV gave me. He told me I will have to haul the pig 50 miles to the Highway Patrol Headquarters and have an inspector who can look at the regular vin number plus the police vin number (maybe some secret number located somewhere? I know there's a VIN number on the front of the frame.l feel like I am trying to adopt a kid instead of title a pig.

Just make sure all the numbers match before you go! I did a frame swap on my BJ60 so my numbers do not match but here in Guatemala they record all the numbers on the title so I'm covered.

Your dessert tan pig had an Arkansas title when I bought it, but the topless one was imported from Idaho. Had to be highway patrol inspected since it was "funky" VIN and out of state. These are such hot commodities, they're probably afraid you stole it and are sneaking it into Missouri to get a clear title. You'd think they's trust neighboring states to have done a proper check. Not sure why the extra digit got added on the one. Had I caught that, I would have protested loudly, since THAT should certainly be stock! Good luck, and happy wrenching. Do you have the tan one running yet?

Yes, I have the tan one running, I drained the tank and put in fresh gas, pulled the plugs and put a few shots of oil in each cylinder and it fired rightup. No exhaust yet but it seems to run good, I have driven it around in my yard a little. I rigged up a mechanical oil pressure gage, it shows 60 lbs a cold idle. Missouri has gotten tougher on titling vehicles in the last few years. I am going to the highway patrol head quarters on September 23 for the inspection, hopefully this will resove the issue with them. I think worst case they will issue a new VIN number and ID tag. I hope they will let me keep the original VIN and tag. I'm not going to do a show winning restoration so i guess it doesn't really matter.

Hey there. Not sure if this helps you, but in Cali. they seem to have just added a zero where my "dash" is. I haven't had any trouble w/ the DMV, but my ins. policy does not reflect the zero in my VIN. I've been thinking about changing the records w/ the ins. provider so as to avoid any discrepancies later.

I just checked my Canadian papers and they've inserted a "0" between FJ55 and the remainder of the VIN

The added "0" can give you issues in travelling. I may have had issues in Mexico/Central America except that I have a second set of papers that are correct.

After 3 months I finally have the title for the pig. The highway patrol did the vin verification inspection and agreed that everything was correct. The state issued the title with the same 9 digit vin number.

I wish I could say that I spent the last three months working on them but I havn't. I have been build a deck on the back of my house plus doing all of usual summer time outside work. But winter is coming on and I am going to put the white one in the garage and start working on it, hopefully by spring I will have it on the road.
