FJ55 steering box and 40 series box

hi guys,

im new to thius forum, I holler from australia

my question, should you choose to accept it is.

is the 55 series steering box the same as a 40 series box?

do they interchange/bolt up?

if not, whats the major difference?

there not interchangeable and are very different. the 40 box has a rod that goes up the steering wheel the 55 uses linkage

is the mounting angle/bolt pattern the same on the chassis bracket end?

Good question, cause I know that the later 40 boxes had a splined input shaft that was fitted with a rag joint. It might also recieve the 55's u-joint...

"That is wrong.

If they weren't interchangeable than I would have been unable to interchange them. I have swapped them a couple times at least.

It's the mini-truck box that is almost the same but has a different mounting angle. That's why you have to swap in a different pedestal when you do a mini-truck PS conversion.
