Looking to get some suggestions on some shocks for a 71 FJ55. I know Pro Comp makes some that fit but would like to see if there is a better option like Rancho, Bilstein, Old Man Emu etc...

Most of these companies make shocks for the FJ40. Will any of them fit the 55? I'm not really looking to lift just yet. Stock ride height is fine for now.

Also does anyone know if an FJ60 fuel sending unit will work in a 55?

?

in the rear, possibly, i've never measured, but in the front the 40 series uses eyelets top and bottom and the 55 is that crappy a$$ upper stud design. you can buy or make adapters to go to eyelet style. been a while since i've looked, but last time i did, there were a lot more options for eyelet/eyelet than stud/eyelet.

I do not know about fuel sending units.

I went with doetsch tech (spelling?) on my 40, no complaints!

I think you just buy from the size chart if they don't list the app.

I run a set of theirs on my pig, and so does Bogus. look them up on line, call them and answer all their questions. any that you don't know the answers to, write it down, find out the info and call them back. ran about 270 for a set of 4 plus a steering stabilizer and came with integral bump stops. and they bolt right in.

I'm using ProComp 9000s and like them. With a mild lift, I called the tech line and they had me measure distance between top and bottom mounts and gave me the numbers to order. No problem getting fronts with the top stud mounts. Also using an OME steering stabilizer.

The rears are easy - the basic "OEM replacement" Bilsteins for the FJ40 work very well. I have a pair on my pig.

The fronts are a different story with the pin mount up top. Bilstein does make some pin mount ones and even a lot of the old 5150 models are essentially pin mount top with a screw on eyelet.

I found that my old springs flexed so much that a stock length shock would not provide enough droop without restricting articulation. If you can get around the stock steering box/shock mount issue, then welding on Ford shock towers is an easy, $30 solution for opening up a world of shock optioins, and ones with an extra inch or two of needed travel.

shocks

I run a bone stock 1976 55 and I used a set of monroe shocks off of a 1978 Ford 150 1/2 ton 4x4 [front] but you do have to push the steel bushing outa the rubber bushing on the shock. They work great.

I am using Bilstein shocks off a 60 series. The rears are fine lenty wise, the fronts are about 40mm too long for the 55, but I have a lift of about that. The bottom bush needs to be chnaged out too. Check my buidup, all the part #'s and pics are there.
