If it helps with cost reduction, possibly count me in on one of those. I can't imagine it would be to expensive.

Thanks, Matt

I'm in too

I have worked in logistics, shipping, etc... for years. My advice is that you really need to reinforce that crate. use screws rather than nails, etc... and if you can figure out something to add to make the top not flat, it will help. That way people will stack you frieght on top of other stuff, but not stack other crap on top of yours. It will help prevent it from getting crushed. Also, definitely make it fork lift friendly, also Pallet Jack friendly. That way, it won't get pushed or pulled by the lift, rather lifted gently. You might even think about crating it with screws & at least 1/2 inch ply or bigger on all sides. As is, some places wouldn't accept it.
Since that is an irreplacable piece, you dont' want it getting crushed, or bent out of shape, etc.. HTH.

crate...that's not a crate.!

What kind of box is that???
My shippers would s*** if i turned up with that..
Definately use screws, and some reinforcement..All my crates are solid, yep they weigh a pile but nothing goes missing or gets broke.
i use rope handles too, make it pallet jack friendly also..These boys dont get paid to be careful down here.
I'll post you a price as soon as i get my hands on it..
Looking forward to getting it..Mike i pmed you the address..
Cheers.
Paul.

Mike, trust us, that is NOT acceptable for shipping across town unless it's in your own truck! You NEED 2x4's as well as fork slots underneath (with protection in case the forks are too short) and lot's more strengthening. Do you want pics of the floor of my truck as an example? Remember that my truck is a Central American model and has NO heaters at all.

p.s. I've been away from Guatemala for the last couple of weeks so I haven't checked as much as I might have.

ok, I'll go back to the drawing board. One problem in the U.S. is the "home improvement stores" like Home Depot put all actual hardware stores (ACE is holding on becasue they still sell hardware) out of business. The lumberyards all went out of business shortly after. Because of that, we don't have a source for raw lumber, only the finished lumber Home Depot sells.

Ok, second attempt. I was tempted to park the Cruiser on it and take a pic but it is no longer a one man job to move it around. I'll add four-bys to the large side so a pallet jack or forklift can get under it. Will this hold up to shipping now?

You are getting way closer. Now ship it flat so that it won't get tipped off the fork when someone turns too fast. Also, like I mentioned before, figure out how to make the top not flat. I MEAN THIS. It is a wooden crate, big and flat. It will get stuff stacked on top of it in a trailer or container. Without a doubt. I will guess it will get a 1,000 pounds or more on it. Unless you make it so that stuff can't get stacked on top of it. I wouldn't worry about dim weight. It should be plenty heavy enough. Even if you do get dimmed, it would be worth the extra bucks to make sure no one puts anything on it. I am going skiing tomorrow, but if you want me to come down on Monday night after work, let me know. I will be happy to look it over in person and let you know what I think.

I guess I should update this...the crate is on a boat somewhere between here and there.

Nice.

Any Ideas on what is going to be available?
- Whole floor
- left / right front floors
- rear floor pan
- center pan
- rocker to rocker?

Just curious.

Looking forward to the repro's! Once in a lifetime event I'm sure.

I'm hopefully getting 2 sets. Depending on price and options.

Treeroot, what are the plans for the floor? 1 big piece or 5-6 little ones? Have you taken into account shipping and measurements for shipping once you get the product?

<------ is getting excited.
