Could someone please post pictures of a passenger side shoulder restraint and how it attaches around the fuel tank. I am having trouble figuring out how to install shoulder restraint. Lap belts would be easy, I would like to have a shoulder restraint, I cannot find a third anchor point.

WyattEarle,
I drilled out the back seat bolt to 7/16" and used a 90* Bracket that came with my seatbelt kit. It is the only place I found that doesn't interfere with the covers on the evap canister.

Thank You for the picture. I have been racking my brain trying to figure that one!

I'd like to bump this old thread. Also I'd like to add that not all 43s are without that notch in the back for ambulance doors. The factory hard top 43/46 has the same notch as the '79-'84 40s.

The factory soft top seems to have the squared rear corners for the ambulance doors like the '78 and older 40s rather than the rounded corners of the '79-'84 40 does.

The factory hard top has the rounded corners: at least in the '79-'84 43/46. I'll post pictures of mine when I get home from my trip.

So it seems that the way to determine whether a 43/46 is a factory hard top is to see whether it's got the rounded corners and notched edges for the door weather strip.

Do you have example photos of the rounded vs square corners and notched edges?

Not a good one handy, but this will give you an idea (the first is mine, the second from the web). The factory soft top doesn't have the door striker: it's got a hole for the latch to slide into. It's also simply a 90° corner rather than notched for the weather strip.

The lower corner on the tub is also radiased rather than a sharp 90° corner like on pre-'79 NAS 40 series. The '79-'84 NAS 40s all have the radiased corners like the hard top 43. I don't know that Toyota offered the factory hard top on the 43 prior to '79, so I can't say what, if any, differences there were on those years.

Very interesting. Not having my 71 40 and 82 43 side by side, I’d not noticed that difference.

Here is my 82 43, but I’m 99% sure it’s a Colombian replacement rear bed.

For folks looking to add a hardtop to late model soft top rigs, what’s the easiest way to handle the rear? Graft in ambulance doors or source early barn doors and hatches? I do like the hatch on my 71. I could see hatch and tailgate being fun.

See how your door is square, but the corner is radiused? I THINK that's different from stock: I think the corner was square originally on yours to match the half door.... But yours has no notch there for the weather stripping, which is how the soft top version was made.

Yours looks really well done. Mine is anything but well done unfortunately. I'll get it there eventually..... but it was 'restored' by the Pakistani troop of the Budweiser Brigade.
