For Sale FJ40 Working AC unit...Clardy...Works GREAT

ok...so I am selling my “Clardy” AC unit that is currently in my 78 FJ40......this unit was in my rig when I bought it 2 years ago and I was told that this unit was a dealer installed unit when my rig was first sold new back in 78......it did not blow cold until I charged the system up with some 134a and checked it for leaks.......after tightening all the clamps up this unit blows COLD and strong!
The only drawback to this setup is the way the lines connect...they are held in place with hose clamps...you can see this in one of the pics below and how they connect to the top of the compressor.....if I were to keep this system I would have some professionally crimped hoses made (like you see on new units) and add a new dryer to the system and rock on down the road.......the only leak I found was in a few of these hose clamps and after I tightened tem up i was good and the system held the 134a with no problem.
I am going to take this unit out and put in a new vintage air unit......the ONLY reasons I am even doing this because I am a perfectionist and about to do a new power steering build and the ac compressor is in my way on the drivers side (Vintage air unit mounts on the other side) and the Vintage Air unit replaces the heater on my unit so hat AC And heater will all be in a new unit....if not for those two points I would keep this unit and do as i recommended above and call it good.
This is a complete system with dash unit....condenser drier compressor hoses, etc.....this system works and works well.....I cannot guarantee that there are no leaks but I checked the entire system with a sniffer when I charged it up and the ONLY leak was in a few of those pipe clamp fittings...and after i tightened them up I ran it all last summer with no problem.
I am asking $450 plus shipping O.B.O.
Don’t flame me for saying O.B.O. I know this is not eBay and I MUST list a price…..but this is the real world and I will take serious offers into account.
I would like to get $450 but will entertain and reasonable offers.
The Vintage Air system sells for $1,200...so for a good AC this is a good deal guys.
I will also be selling my OE heater parts if anyone is interested.
I will carefully remove the system and ship it once a buyer pays me.

1) Does the A/C provide heat ? Looks like this requires stock heater removal.

2) Can you provide pics of engine bay, showing comp. mounts, belt routing etc.

3) What mounts, pulleys etc, are included in the sale, if any.

4) Do you experience any overheating as a result of having this A/C on/operating. I live in the mnts. & this is a concern.

Thanks for your interest.

1) This AC unit does NOT provide heat.....it "goes around" the stock heater to make it all look like one unit. THis unit does NOT require you to remove your stock heater system.

2) I will post some pics later this week for you. The FJ is at the body shop today for a few days getting some work done.

3) Any and all mounts/pullies that are not part of my stock accessory configuration wil be sent. I will send anything and everythign that is removable and will not keep me from running. This SHOULD be everything needed to run this system.

4) I am in Birmingham, Alabama (a considerably warmer climate in the summer) and I ran this AC all last summer wide open on full cool all summer and experienced no noticable heat gains on the motor. I think this system is somewhat efficient for being aftermarket and considering its age.

No problem John......

The part that surrounds the stock heater is visable in the pics......it literally hangs in front of the stock heater.....literally like an arm that hangs in front of the stock heater........nothing is done to the stock heater other than putting in two screws to stablilize the part of the AC that hangs in front of the stock heater. The two screws go thru the AC console into the stock heater housing. The best way to think of the system is a complete seperate AC that has no incorporation to the stock heat at all.

As for heat.....I have seen no appreciable gain in heat while running the AC unit in the hottest part of the summer standing still at a stop light.....just my experience. Although, for some reason my 2F has always run on the cool side....especially after I recently cleaned the grease and mud off the block.

I am trying to get my unit going when removing where was power to blower switch coming from? Not found any info anywhere

Hi, I have one of these units. They work very well. The weak point is the clamps on the hoses. If you switch to new ac hoses you will blow cold and not lose ac 134. You will also have to cut a very small notch out of your fan surround to clear the York compressor and mount. The mount is a beast. Mike

If you still own can you post pictures of how the compressor mounts up? Where does the ac lines penetrate the fire wall?
