FJ40 V8 SBC TBI still overheating after cooling system upgrade

Ok, this will generate some disagreements I'm sure, but an aluminum radiator does not cool as effective as a copper/brass unit. Try a solid fan with no clutch. Your thermostat could be an issue as the OEM style is a little restrictive, so try a Mr. Gasket# 4364 high flow thermostat https://www.summitracing.com/parts/mrg-4364 Your other issue may be the water pump/fan location. Since you replaced an in-line engine with a SBC, does the fan set lower with the SBC than it would have with the in-line engine, if it does, that can also be an issue with restriction in air flow from the winch and air pushing against the engine. When replacing an in-line engine with a SBC, a water pump high riser is a good option to get the fan higher up for unrestricted air flow. see PIF, page 415 if you are not familiar with it https://www.dodgepowerwagon.com/pw/pw_pif.pdf Another problem is always a head gasket leaking into the cooling system. I run a Mr. Gasket 160 in my SBC as well as an overflow tank and it works well.
