Fj40 sound options

I have checked through the postings and found lots of good ideas for a sound system. I have 72 doors and can't imagine cutting them. I guess I am looking for options that have been done on a 72 fj40 for the CD Player (I'm thinking tuffy console) rear and front speakers. Front speakers especially. I like pimps set-up with the bose in the rear, but what about the front if you don't want to slice up the doors.

any idea's?

on my 45 long bed I mounted some West Marine smallish box speakers up under the dash and on the firewall, used bolts or nuts that were already there so no drilling. Sounds pretty darn good, can hear with the top off 35's humming 3 speed howling doing 60 on the hiway

Tweets in the dash (little 1" ones work fine.)

6x9"s on each side on the wheelwells.

amps in the under seat box (with a cool littel fan if you are paranoid)

Subwoofer in a box in the bed..

At one time my cruiser had 4 amps
2 tweeters
2 4" rounds in the doors
2 6x9's
2 8" subs
2 12" subs

Dam thing sounded excellent..

I need some sound set-up ideas also! Anybody have opinions on those soundbar things made for ~heeps~ ? Lets see some pics of those sweet setups.

My 40 came with a CD player in a Tuffy. Works great just close the lid when wheeling or you'll become close friends with a cleaning shop. There's also a set of 6 1/2 coax's mounted in the ends of a couple of big ammo cans mounted on top of the rear wheelwells. Sounds pretty good when you can hear it...but with the top off at speed you can't hear nothin' but the wind, the road and the motor!

I'm looking for someone to fab up a speaker mount for the back simular to the picture below. I have a pair of marine speakers that I was told would play even when being shot with a fire hose.

I use my Palm Tungsten E w/ Real Player, a 256MB SD memory card with 5 mp3 albums and headphonmes. Completely portable and I have my palm with me -- as I usually do anyhow.

Works pretty good, just no radio. I can live with that.

right now I use a 10 gig ipod and the headphones that came with it. I just miss the humm of the 35's on the highway and the growl of the 2f badly in need of a carb fix!

Baily this is how I mounted mine, used a ARB CB antenna mount(for bull bar) it clamps around the rool bar, speaker bolts to it, can adjust the angle and it doesn't move.

Soundbar w/tuffy console here

I just want a little sound for the beach or going down the road so I bought a cheapy soundbar w/domelight on Ebay for around $110. I also have the Tuffy console, but haven't quite figured on where to install it. I drilled mounting holes in the bottom of it and used neopreme washers to mount it on the rear heater (1981 FJ40). I also had to bend the stick shift forward a little to clear the console. I am still in the process of installing it, but will take a picture of it this evening. The console seems to sit up pretty high, but not uncomfortable.

tuffy(with CD) in my 82 fj40,I took out the rear heater(under stock console) even in WA the front heater is plenty, if you wanted a rear heater you could use a pre 81 heater and mount in rear.

But I had to do no bending of the shifter. I also found with the pad on the tuffy it was too tall for my liking, so I took off the pad and used some marine carpet on top, fits great.

Yep, mine's at least 6" taller than that pimp..

Taking out the rear heater makes a big difference. I may have to see if I can reposition the heater furter back, I just hate to drill more holes than absolutely necessary. Good looking install.

just ditch the heater, unless you live in the artic I see no need for it..........but I have my own insulation

John, that looks like a good utility mount for a lot of things. Clue us in on a supplier!

Yep, ARB airial mounts. I have used them to mount a hi lift on a ARB bar.
