How fast could these “race” Cruisers really be? Ha. I remember my dad having to pull over and shift our Cruiser into low to make it over a mountain pass because 145 hp wasn’t enough power to pull a lightweight military trailer full of building materials headed across Colorado to our cabin.

These engines had to be modified, right?
…it’s really torque and gearing that helps propel you over the mountain, and we didn’t seem to have enough of that, either.

The trucks they competed against were not fast either. These were more endurance races, finishing being a feat.
