I have some timing/ignition issues with my -68 FJ40 with Denso distributor(F engine). I find many newer distributor, but not the 60042. It looks identical to a 2F distributor, except the vacuum connection. Will a 2F work, or is it set up differently?

My problem is a timing mark jumping around, backfire, hard start etc. Changed fuel, spark plugs, cables, points, refurbed carb, set valves. I think it might be too much play in the distributor axle, but i’m only guessing.

Grateful for help!!

It's very commong to have play in the distributor shaft bushings on those early units.
Usually they will be ok at higher RPM since the shaft will start spinning true as it speeds up.
19100-61080 or 19100-61180 work well as new replacements.

It’s also common for a distributor to get a burr between the shaft and housing that will cause erratic timing. Especially if it’s over 40 years old…or aftermarket. If you’re not comfortable with de-pinning the drive gear to clean the shaft and housing, it’s probably time to move on to a new unit.

I offer both the units mentioned above, both standard or with electronic ignition installed.
