Don't have a 4runner in the driveway sorry.

I made up 5 consoles for 40's this week and was curious if they would work? I'm not sure length and width but if you had a detailed picture and measurements I could get a better idea.

By the way, 3 of them are not spoken for yet.

If you're willing to build a version for first generation 4runners, I could pay you tomorrow!
:hhmm:
Going out on a limb here, but I don't suppose you have a 4runner in the driveway to mock it up?
Great looking console by the way!

Nothing yet. I was planning on running by Cruisercorps this week and I think they have a 60 I could look at. If someone could post picture and measurements that would be great.

Anyone know what Tuffy usually goes in the 60 or 62? I may get an idea from their measurements.

Interested for a 60.
I can get you measurements if you haven't received any yet.

It will be a few weeks until I have enough cash, but here are some rough specs. Its about 20 outside, I didn't last long. Sounds like plenty of interest, and maybe the design for the 40 would work.
A basic 9x22" platform should fit 'floating' above the mounting rails. It looks like the stock plastic is molded to fit the floor, and that the interior of the box drops down into this space. The console could stand to be taller by a few inches. The 9" rear height is from the bottom of the molded plastic below the mounting rails. Sorry there are a few specs I did not get, it was pretty cold. This should help to see if what you have might fit though.

I like the locking feature and 2 cup holders. Maybe find a way to incorporate a change dish/crap cubby/gum spot?
Super Cool what you are doing.

The 8" wide Tuffy is supposed to fit in a 60. I think possibly the 62 too. The 62 has the rear heater located near or under the console as I recall.

Tuffy 012 or 013 would be the 8" models.

Thanks for the pictures that's what I was looking for. I think it would be straight forward from what I see. I'd probably change the design I was using for the 40 and make the two cup holders sit horizontal that way it makes more room for the main storage area.

The coin/**** tray is kind of interesting. Some kind of appendage could be placed on the side with extra effort. Not sure if it's really with the effort but it looks like you use it.

I'll have to layout the design to see how much material it will take. My gut says the 60 console will cost more just because it's bigger and I won't be able to get as many from one sheet of aluminum.

I have some ready to ship - Merry Christmas

I have center consoles made and they can ship next week to make a great Christmas addition to your 40 or whatever other vehicle they'll fit in.

Looks like you are at 7.5" wide for the FJ40 console. I could see paying ~$200 for one that is 9" wide for the 60. I haven't taken the carpet or console out to see underside attachment specs.

Parking meters keep me looking for change, nice to have a change dish of some sort to keep small items handy. Maybe have the 2 cup holders side by side and a small dish?

As you don't have a 60, I can totally understand not wanting to get into fabbing gear for them. But if you do... I'll keep my eye on the progress, perhaps in the new year $$$.

What are the exterior measurements of the elevated lockbox area vs. the cupholder portion? What's the dimensions on the interior storage?

It looks like the consoles that you already have finished could fit if I really wanted to try. As much as I'd like to help you unload those, it'd be awesome to have something with slightly different dimensions for my needs.

Basically, I don't need the large space used for the two cupholders. If you could shorten that portion small enough for just one cupholder, then lengthen the elevated storage area to fill up that gap then it'd be perfect for me. I'd also like the elevated portion to be about 3" taller. I'd rather you not cut the hole for the cupholder. That would give me a little freedom to customize it a little or cut my own cupholder hole. I mostly need the extra locking capacity. If you'd be open to doing all this mess, maybe even the trim surrounding the shifter...please let me know. I'd even be willing to give you all that change in the tray.

Here's a picture of a first gen 4runner console. The coin trays are kinda useless. I don't smoke so the removable ash tray on the dash is perfect for spare change. I'll probably relocate my switches to the dash.

The biggest change was I made the sides and rear all out of one piece of material making it look a bit nicer rather than the way my original one looked. My original was pieced together from scrap material.

I added a divider between the cup holder area and the main storage area.

The widths vary a little bit given the inaccuracy of being bent individually vs. some special computerized gizmo. All the lid's are 7 inches wide or less. That I'm sure of.

Buy one... I have three ready to ship. ;)

I noticed that you were thinking about some changes to be made on the later ones being made. What are the changes and are they still coming in at the first listed 6.5" wide? will keep an eye on this thread, nice work....I want one

Interior storage area is about 14 inches based on the bottom measurement. The cupholder portion about 8 inches.

Since I thought there was sufficient interest in the consoles I made for the 40, I built six of them which consumed my sheet of aluminum. I wished I had only made them as I received orders that way I would have material to do some custom work for you and those people interested in the 60 consoles.

If I could unload what I have, then I'd go purchase another sheet of aluminum and see what we could come up with.

Come on 40 owners, buy a console so I can help out the other members of the family! :)

Makes sense, I can appreciate that. It seems you're motivated, I like that attitude. Come on mud members, let's support a fellow mud member and craftsmen!

I'll go ahead and hold out over the next month and see if you end up selling all those 40 consoles. If not, I may just bite the bullet and make a 40 console work in my truck. :hhmm:I imagine most everyone here's a little strapped for cash because of the holidays.

Hey Nik, I'm gonna be in Tulsa on the 6th of January. I have an extra 62 console you can have. If your interested we could me up and I'll just give it to you and you can have a good start for a 62 console. You get one built and ill buy one off you. PM me if you want the console man. Take care and keep em coming.

Bump.
Buy this guy's excellent looking 40 consoles, so he can buy more materials and design a 60 console I can buy!

Just got my console today in the mail. Just in time for Christmas!:bounce:

Looks fantastic!

I'll post up some pics upon install.

Thanks Nik!

Update...

The console was a breeze to install, including the bracket for the back of it. Which is in one of the attached pics.

Looks great and fits perfectly. Thanks again Nik!
