For my BJ43 I was searching for a floor mat (1979+ version). LHD is very rare and expensive.
But RHD is possible to buy on the Japanese actions.

Here are two mats
First RHD, second LHD

When I looked at my old European mat I found special dots

This old European mat also had similar points for the RHD

I was surprised when I found on RHD the positions for the LHD cut

So it looks like Toyota produced the unified mats and put the holes for both markets. Later the cut was produced depends on the market LHD or RHD

Hello,
Great post, I looking for a new mat for my 1983 FJ40. Do you have any contact info for the RHD mats in Japan??? Please let me know as I would like to purchase one and modify as you did.
Thank
Andre

I was searching via jauce.com
You have to register, search and win. Not often but possible.

Makes sense otherwise they would have put a outline like all the shifters. Those are the same RHD and LHD. The hand brake the only one different.

Few more simplified pictures

As you may see the RHD cut is a bit shorter.
So RHD mat into LHD is possible; LHD mat into RHD might not work well
