Hey all. I believe this to be a very early FJ25 air cleaner. Drove a long ass way to pick up a `67 fj40 that turned out to be a parts truck. Was in worse condition than I'd hoped, was pretty bummed until I found this in the back seat. I know air cleaner boxes for the early years are fairly spendy, but this early is out of my wheelhouse. Posting here to learn what it is, and maybe find someone that needs it to recoup my losses. Input appreciated!

I don’t know when they switched over but I think I remember reading it was ~middle of 1963? Someone more knowledgeable than myself will hopefully step up and clarify.

Looks like you’re missing the mounting bracket. As far as price goes…it worth what someone will pay. LC market in general is down.

But to better answer your question…here’s the most recent sale of one: Validating browser… - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/durango-co-early-flat-top-oil-bath-air-cleaner.1380603/

What it actually sold for is anyone’s guess unless the buyer or seller will disclose.

Thanks for that Unimogguy, good info there. I think I have the mount bracket somewheres in a pile. Hoping to find a someone in the market for the thing. I agree though, market is down, way down. Doesn't seem like anything is selling for a fair price anymore. Good time to buy, or sit on the stuff.

@Living in the Past thanks for the year correction! Upon looking closer it does appear that the inlet has been trimmed when compared to @rckhound ‘s one he had for sale.

@Spring Grover Fair price for who buyer or seller?

Back when I first got a 40 you’d find guys who’d just give parts to others who actually needed them. I’m not suggesting you do that. But the glory (aka overpriced) COVID-19 days are long gone for sellers. I find it unfortunate that the barrier to entry to get into an FJ40 has gotten so high. I definitely couldn’t have afforded one at 17 like I did in ‘96 in today’s market. Which then eliminates how many people??? But more importantly how many people we actually want in this hobby.

Slap a price on it and post it in the FJ25 classified section. Supply/Demand will ultimately dictate the price.

Then we’ve got the guys who are just hoarding parts just to hoard parts. Meanwhile, someone actually needs a part for their restoration and it’s just sitting in a hoarders garage collecting dust. It’ll never be used but kept for “someday” when they get around to 1 of the 5+ LC’s they have which needs a restoration. Unfortunately, they’re too stubborn to admit the time for that to happen has passed them by. But ultimately it’ll probably be sold for scrap once they pass by their heirs because their heirs either don’t know the value or don’t care. It’s an interesting situation…

Once I finish the restoration of my 45’s all the additional parts will be for sale. I have ZERO interest in hoarding anything that could complete someone else’s rig.

Anyway…GLWS! I’ll step off the soapbox now.

Yup. All of this stuff is scrap at some point.

Well put.

And some people wonder why I don't bother to actively sell parts anymore. The time for that to happen has indeed passed me by. I am personally over invested in every piece of crap in my hoard and only care that someone will put it to good use in exchange for me holding on to it for a brief twenty years. I've literally tried to give parts away for the cost of shipping, only to be ghosted. Replied to wanted threads with zero acknowledgement. It is an interesting situation.

Am I worried that a common early oil bath air cleaner might sell for $500? Hell no, because there's one on the shelf next to the two radiators and a fan for the next time I impale the old F135 on a submerged log. :meh:

we ended up agreeing on $500.
That's true. I want to finish my truck someday, and have time to play with it. I'll be offering my "old" one for ~half that. It has lots of character but no rust.

Jim I think the time has past for me as well. Unlike you having one sitting on a shelf I probably two or three. Member looking to get a early three Mud shipped to Phoenix. I three of them in Phoenix already.

Think this comment in the thread about the new classified confirms it how us old timers are viewed

"It makes ads more complex for people who aren’t tech savvy.

In actuality, this Classifieds system weeds out less tech savvy people. It is weeds the bottom dwellers who take advantage of a free system.

Gets rid of old people who have a hard time holding a phone."

My mom always said, if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. I'm all for less expensive parts. I saw a pair of early red seat belts on Flea Bay the other day. They lasted about 8 minutes. I think more early trucks would get finished (and indeed _started_), if restoration parts were more available and reasonable. You can't complain about a Toyota Heritage program if you could personally make a positive supply impact.
Loosen up those hoards folks. I plan on letting go of my small stash as soon as I know what's essential for my final project. Do it sooner than later, the F25 section needs new threads.
My $.02.

Not really a hijack if still in the original topic. @rckhound's air cleaner was much nicer than this thread's one. It had all it's parts, and needed no repair. The hose connection was not broken off. And it finished nicely without further effort.

I’m still looking for one..for those of you that might be holding. Not to sit on a shelf but to be actually used on my ‘63 just like @HelloKitty65
