I have a 1975 landcruiser located in NC at a vacation home that I have only insured for liability. I have upgraded it a bit over the last few months and its value at least to me in regards to replacement has gone up significantly. I am worried that it might be stolen. I would like to insure it against theft at least commensurately with the cost of the parts I put into it-the blue book is only 700 dollars. I have put thousands into it. I have read some entries regarding insurance cost in the forum but have seen no indication about how you obtained it to cover an obviously more valuable vehicle. Can any of you tell me how you got underwritten-did you have an appraisal done to validate an agreed upon value or did you assert a value and agree to pay insurance to that level. Any help would be appreciated.

On my '40, I went through the appraisal process. With the '45, just last week, I told the insurance agent what I wanted, and we just went with that. So, I guess you need to talk to your agent! I happen to have Safeco.

Ask your insurance agent about getting a "declared value" policy rider written. It's like buying term life insurance on your vehicle. I'm with Shelter Ins. and they will do it. I'm just not ready to pay for it just yet since I'm sure NOBODY is gonna steal Buddy the way he looks now. Do some body work and paint... Yep, DV policy in effect :D
