a fairey or an h55 will probably get you to 17-18 mpg .....any one tried a 6 speed getrag? still nowhere near as efficient as a diesel's 23-35 mpg.....have had experience with a dodge turbo 2500 and it gets around 20 mpg normal driving around town..long trips at 60 mph around 23 mpg in 6th gear 3/4 ton pickup.

if ya sniff around the diesel forum and classfieds, you can find Toy diesels for decent deals. Example, buy a rusted BJ60 from canada and get the 5-speed and 4cly diesel all at once...or a donor HJ60. I have about 2K$ in my 2H (already had the 5-speed) and about 7 days labor (with help from one friend)... HTH,

im still searching the site, but i just found a gmc van with a 6.2l diesel in it locally for sale. does anyone have a thread involving shoehorning in one of these?

theres a few threads here about gm diesels in cruisers....

about the only thoughts i have on a diesel swap is dont go into it for financial or perceived financial reasons based on MPG gains,,,, it just doesnt work that way. if your intention is to save money on fuel i think you would be way ahead to use a cheap commuter car daily and the rig for fun stuff.

for me the MPG gains were a bonus not the reason. its gonna take a long time to recoup my investment let alone start saving money, if i ever even get to that point. but like i said my diesel swap had nothing to do with the financial well being of my wallet.

keep us posted on your piggy.

Gumby (I think) did a 6.2 in a 60 series... and pulled it a week later? Went with a V8... Search in the 60 forum for the write up or in the technical links.

Roger T. runs a 6.2 in his 40 of STLCA.... loves it for trail use... military spec 6.2 has a better crank I read somewhere...

HTH,

found this last night: LC
then i found this which i think will work nicely: http://www.advanceadapters.com/instructions/712560.pdf
ive got lots of g52 and g54 transmissions laying around, and i am way more familiar with them, also at that point drop in some 2nd gen toy axles and do the disk brake conversion all the way around and it will be wayy easier to do than trying to find the correct gm ignition,
mostly i like mechanically injected diesels because i hate all kinds of computers controlling my engine, glow plug controller goes out all you need is a momentary contact switch and some wires and its running again.
and using available toy trans and axles would free up cash for springs and other parts that i want to add to the truck (i work with dd people doesnt pay worth crap) and i am going back to college this fall so money is going to be a little tight...

edited to add, with the engine trasn setup i was reading on the link above he was getting 18mpg on average, which is almost double what the stock 1/2f gets and puts it in the vehicle into the same milage range as my dd, and i plan on running biodiesel in it anyway which will raise the economy of it
