Hey mates,
I just purchased my first 4x4 vehicle after much research and luckily found a great deal on a LC100. However , It was originally owned in Idaho, and came with much salted rust. I had the underbody sprayed with rustoleum undercoating. My mechanic said should be good for a couple years before I need another layer, but it’s already eaten through the hand brake and I will have to eventually repair the brakes from erosion.
since purchase I had to replace the abs but it has yet to pass smog.
Otherwise I am super stoked and can’t wait to hit some trails soon.

Welcome to the 100 world!
Would you like to share few pictures of the underbody? Is it a paint to protect the corrosion? If applied without properly preping the rusted surface, the corrosion will accelerate.

Thanks! He used

Rust-Oleum 15 Oz Black Rubberized Undercoating Spray Paint, Black, 6 Pack

I will send photos. Right now the evap system failed due to the corrosion and is being repaired

You will need to prep the surface, descale using a needle gun, grinder and rust kill. Then prime, paint and coat. the only way to stop it is to kill it!

Rubberized undercoating is a killer for metals! it traps water/moisture and salt..

They removed most of the visible scale rust before applying the undercoating, the car has mostly surface rust, but did find some penetrating rust. But I guess I’m gonna have to deal w issues as they come, like the evap system that needs replacement

Yeah this was the more expensive option that we didn’t do, no grinding

here are the photos should I remediate? I had my guy spray the undercoating but I don't think he touched the cradle under the engine

The frame image shows clear blow through... that needs to be cleaned, cut and patched, then treated and coated. The second image of the tank shield also shows blow through, easier to replace than repair, probably cheaper too. The sooner you clean t, the better off you and the truck will be...

How about the photos under the timing belt and radiator? Not as pressing?

The entire frame needs to be checked... it looks like it suffers from severe rust and rot. Post 11, first picture shows the transmission crossmember... it needs to be removed and cleaned at a minimum, possibly replaced. The metal underneath is probably compromised, suggested by the already existing patch/repair attempt.

Sorry, but can't diagnose entire condition without actually seeing the truck in person, but it doesn't look promising!
