In typical "project" fashion... we had our first breakdowns. Right rear blinker stopped working and the power steering pump decided that 3 miles after the wheel alignment, it wasn't going to work with us anymore... LOL

Checked pump pressure, replaced the pump and are going to inspect the removed trailer wiring, as we suspect the culprit is in that area.

We'll take the good with the bad, it does drive like a brand new truck...

New build gremlins! It's nice to be able to drive and fix these things! You'll get it sorted and truly have a brand new truck!

welcome to the 40th club. I've had mine since 06. She's gone through some changes but it's a great rig. No plans on ever letting it go.

WOWWWWWW!
Amazing truck, amazing project, amazing everything!!!
CONGRATS!!!!!
Happy new year to everyone
Cheers from ARGENTINA

Haven't driven her much because the amount of the salt on the roads, it's unbelievable up here. But the rain has washed it enough to allow me drive her today.

Looking forward to it.

In the mean time, scored a great deal on a set of "fun" tires.

So last weekend, I completely lost steering on the beach. So now it's story time. I knew that my steering box was likely in need of replacement. Ever since we finished the Cruiser, driving at highway speeds, you would notice she had some slop in her. Nothing I couldn't handle and nothing that made me feel unsafe... but I knew it was there.

In the back of my mind, I was planning for an upgraded steering box with the 105 shaft.

So while on the beach, getting my ass handed to me and failing to overcome it from nervousness... I completely lost all my power steering. This was just after some extremely violent steering reactions. I thought to myself... the steering box is coming back to bite me.

I finally got her off the sand, onto the pavement and saw power steering fluid everywhere. Defeated, I drove her home. On Monday I made some calls got my upgraded box ordered from RedHead Steering Gears - Manual & Power Steering Gear Box - https://redheadsteeringgears.com/ . Who btw, has been an excellent vendor to deal with and work with my first time out.

Yesterday, we started to tear it down and the steering gear was not our culprit... The reman power steering pump that barely has 3,000 miles was.

The service port in the back completely blew out of the housing.

For reference, the unit that failed is an AAE Reman steering pump. It was replaced with a BBB Reman steering pump, which is the only available pump in this area at the moment.

Yeah I rebuilt my pump myself. Reading this thread, I think I'll probably order one of these as well. Not a bad thing to keep in the on board tool box.
I'm going to rebuild a bunch of stuff of the parts truck to keep on the shelf as time goes on. I hate buying stuff like this when the rebuild kits are available. First time we needed it off the lift, this time we need to get it warrantied, lol.

I went OEM, price was not to bad, for I dont trust reman for the power steering pump.

Awesome build, glad you getting things sorted out!
