Almost done, just waiting for the radiator to come today, water pump, fan clutch and a couple small things Monday.

Everyone was absolutely right on PHH, gotta pull driver's side wheel. That middle bolt as well is not coming off, ill probs just cut the metal connector it's already really flimsy. Only concern is jacking it up on this fresh, angled asphalt. Wouldn't mind waiting till it drives to do PHH in a proper place, but don't really wanna drain coolant again and go through all of this at a later date.

I think ima do everything except PHH, tow rope it to my friend's shop down the street and finish PHH there. Safest option for sure.

Good work! having just gone through a full engine replacement and refreshing everything in the engine compartment, I can tell you you've saved yourself close to $20k!!

The only real regret you will have is when you sell it!

I was getting estimates for $12k just for engine swap, nothing else, so I'm not surprised to hear that. Hope you LS swapped it while you could haha.

Hope to never sell it, but doesn't everybody say that haha?

You can get upper and lower bolt off PHH pipe using a ratcheting 12mm combination wrench with fixed angled head. Standard length, not extra long.

Lay a 2x6 across the engine bay and lay on it to reach clear to the back. The top bolt can be reached from the top.
The lower bolt can also be reached from the top or the side.

You will be doing it blind and by feel.

I can totally see it with the upper intake off, the issue is it is just not coming loose no matter what I do. I spent a good two hours trying to get it out, it seems like oils been leaking on it for years and just made it stick like crazy. I even tried this weird U combination of ratchet extensions and no dice. Not really sure what else I can even do.

I used another standard combination wrench as an extension on my ratcheting wrench to break loose the bolts.

You need to work more on your grip strength. ;) ;) ;)

I was using a flex head wrench which was working great, but I borderline stripped the bolt because it was just not coming undone. Probably need to improve my grip strength either way haha. Will try again tomorrow and see what I can come up with.

Completely off topic here, but dunno where else to ask. I've worked in software for awhile and main thing I notice with ih8mud is the consistent advice of "search google with site:ih8mud.com". Great advice, google search has some neat features, but often times it doesn't search what I actually want (i.e. only 80s series).

Was toying with the idea of making something like searchih8mud.com (doesn't actually exist) and running some indexer on that site that directs you here for "found" posts from more complex search queries than google lets you. I haven't been around here long so curious if the true mudders want/need something outside of what google has to offer.

That sounds cool.

I've found adding more search strings ("80-Series Tech" for example) helps narrow the results set in Google search.

An example search is: site:ih8mud.com "80-Series Tech" knuckle nuts

Oh that's a great way to do it i just search 80s series with it and it doesn't work great. If I get bored one day maybe I'll build it.

Dumb I never tested VSV, but it's at 53 ohms at about 68 degrees. Definitely well above 30-33ohm spec, and blowing air through it (without voltage) is pretty hard. Seems like I need to order a new one? Pretty sure part number is 9091012079.

IAC is within spec for ohms, voltage tests open and close properly as well and got to practice my sketchy electrical setup, always fun. Gotta figure out what Zach meant when he said clean the ports tho, assuming that's on the TB itself.

Also having trouble ID'ing these two hoses - bottom one I'm fairly certain is the part I have in the picture, 1626466021, but it isn't curved like the old one on the TB now. Cannot find the top one for the life of me.

I found this which seems similar, but it’s in my place not outside which is well below 70 degrees.

If i disable EGR does it even matter?

The IAC port is part of the throttle body. It bypasses the throttle plate and allows air to flow through, controlled by the iAC.

This port can get gunked up with carbon and block or reduce airflow.

As for the VSV if you are talking about the EGR VSV I would just disable the EGR completely with the resistor method.

Makes sense I'll clean that up today. Yep, EGR VSV was wondering if that would work, I'll just do that and not worry about it again.

I’ve wanted to compile a bunch of threads and P/N lists into one big place, either a thread or a spreadsheet. I have a huge P/N list in the notes on my phone and computer, and I save my bookmarks on MUD with labels so I can dig them out quicker. Haven’t gotten around to it yet. I like the search “this forum / this thread” drop-down when I’m on MUD, I either use that or google with similar results as what you described.

Part list aggregator would be cool, parts.lexus.com and partsouq are really helpful, but there's def some judgement calls that have to be made for certain hoses.

I'll surely get some flak for this one but I'm lazy, water pump and fan clutch still not here, and wasn't particularly excited about tow-roping to a place I could jack up the car for PHH. So.... I pulled the brake booster and am halfway done now with PHH and the other hose to the left of it (clamps are off) from up top, hopefully will finish later today.

Worth it? Absolutely not. Have a gnarly cut on my hand to prove it, brake booster is horrible to get out. At least it's out now but damn that is not fun.

Probably too late, but the move is to remove the phh from the drivers side wheel well.

You can remove the bolts from the top holding the hard pipe to the head. Very fiddly, but doable with the upper plenum off. I swapped out the whole assembly on this one because it was pretty corroded (I only replaced the runner phh hose on the last 2 80s).

It's harder with large arms. My old martial arts instructor liked to joke about my arms being tree trunks. hahaha Groot
