Finally, my HZJ 78 on Bolt on Portals!

How many of you folks think that the front caliper is lowly mounted? Personal view is bit low.
BTW, Do you need to swap the axle shaft in order for this portal to fit in?

I saw the caliper and wondered why not mounted at the side.

These portals are great, but I feel the shocks and leaf springs are still at a low point considering the lift of the portals. Usually I see the leafs are SOA on portals.........whether this is effective or has a downside I can't comment.

For the price of the portals, out of my reach. As Cicak has commented the volvo axles are more readily available at a little more economical price.

These are the only bolt on portals I have seen for Toyota.

Depends on the terrsin I think. In Malaysia definately they eould be in trouble with our ROCKS and bamboo and logs tossed in mudholes.

YEs VOLVO axles have the DISC Caliper on the top for the conversions we have done here.

They swap the shafts I believe.

I've been very seriously looking at portals for my upcoming Ultimate Cruiser build.

I also e-mailed Tibus after seeing this and got a price of EUR 10.500 +8 weeks lead tie for a set of the Tibus portals. That CAD$13,753 at today's conversion.

They have two big things going for them.... the will bolt onto a Cruiser Axle, and they are aluminum (lightweight). The 35" tire max size is a deal breaker though. My Dodge tow rig has 36"'s on it, and my Cruiser will never run anything less that 40".

Probably a more realistic option is the AxleTeck Portal. USD$6,499 for all for portal ends. Very strong, they have clients running up to 53" tires with no problems, but have only been stress tested to 55 mph, so speed might be a problem with these. Again, a deal breaker for me, as the Ultimate Cruiser needs to be able to drive on the freeway all day long. The other two big downsides with the Axleteck is that you're stuck with a u-joint steering joint instead of a birfield, unless you can get RCV axle to custom make an axle for this portal.

The other big downside is as a Cruiser guy that these don't bolt up to Cruiser axles, and would require a swap to a Dana or Ford axle. Which is not a terrible thing, but all of a sudden you're back into the $15,000 price range by the time you have a 'built' Dana 60 ready for these portals. They DO, however, have CTIS!

Not cheap, but not unreasonable. I've been shopping a lot for axle options, and all there is no way to get into a set of fully built axles for less than $10K. $15K if you want new parts. $17,500 for those Marks portals is not unreasonable, as they come with rims, fender flares, steering arms... completely built kit. That's really not out of line. Just call up Dynatrac and get a quote on one of their D60 axles with the axleteck portal. Suddenly Mark's gears look like a pretty reasonable option.

I think they are a great idea, seems a little steep although you do get a lot for the money.

Are brakes included? Calipers Rotors?

Patrol 6-stud and Landcruiser 6-stud are the same?

Good ole Toyota changes the cruisers to 5 stud in the 100 series and the 1999+ 7x series which the troopy is.

Yeah they thought they could torque the nuts down more or something?

I thought yzftaco was potentially putting those portals on a 40 or a 60, figured they would fit.

I saw the same concept [well, sort of] on Hummer's when I was a kid and always wondered how to do it to my old man's BJ40. Man that thing used to pull.

How much width did the Tibus portals add to your axles at wheel mounting surface? Also do you know if Tibus's larger box's with the 1.6:1 ratio are also available in a Toyota bolt on?

How is it running and did you modify-upgrade anything else (maybe interior) ?
