New to the Forum and to Fj60's. I have always wanted an FJ60, but could never afford one, So I settled on a 97 fzj80 with a weird rod knocky noise for $800 Still ran really strong, even when I tried hard to make it pop. I am pretty good at mechanics and fabrication, so the plan was to put a 12v 6bt cummins in it, so I got a donor truck and pulled the motor,

but before I could even pull the motor out of the 80 I ran into a STEAL on a 1984 fj60 with 160kmiles on it running and little rust. I love it. I am scraping the fj80 project to fund this one, which brings me to my questions I was thinking about using the 80 frame so I can have that platform with the fj60 body, I could have swore I saw a thread about doing that but I havent been able to find it?? I think it was cut down the frame 4" and make custom body mounts..??

I am also eventually going to change the motor to either a turbo 2jz or one of the chevy vortech motors..
any advice, wisdom is much appreciated.

Also for the next 6-7 months/until I get everything together I'm just going to drive it around stock :)

There is a thread about a 60 body on an 80. You'll have to use the search feature. I do believe it is
within the 60 forum, but check hardcore as well. Good luck, ambitious and interesting. Although
I do hate to see a perfectly good 60 get hacked, it is still a cool way to go.

There are a few threads about doing the swap you are talking about. From what I remember the 80 series chassis has to be cut down to fit the 60 body something like 3" or 4"s. Not necessarily an easy job nor something we would recommend unless you are a seasoned fabricator.

Why do you want to go with the 80 chassis? Specifically for the suspension, axles, what? If it is more for the suspension and axles that can be done, albeit slightly easier than the chassis swap. Of what you could do is just throw the axles under (most keep the 60 front axle) which only really requires cutting off the old spring perches from your old axle and aligning them properly on the new one. That has been done quite a bit, take a look at @robustbambi and his build and you will see what has been done.

Thanks for the help, links, and advice. I will get some pics of all the stuff I have collected.
I do tend to bite off more than I expect, but So far nothing looks really that scary, and that's how you grow right?
