Mine did that on hot days with the stock manifold. I think the fuel was boiling in carb. Stopped when I installed a 6 into 1 header. Not sure of your setup.

thanks! last summer I installed high altitude jets on my carb, and replaced the muffler with a flow master... haven't changed anything else up. after running it for a bit though, that would make sense if the fuel was boiling. what else can I do to stop that? or do I really need to worry about it other than scaring the neighbors when it backfires?!

Heres some better photos. The rig is at the shop hopefully getting the last things done.
The ramp was $50 buck on KSL.com which is like a local craigslist. The feet were a used set from rack and road. I traded in some other thule stuff I had and i paid the $10 buck difference. Load bars were $15 from KSL.com.
Painted and cleaned em up and I have a rack that is rated for 300 lbs for under a hundred bucks and looks cool. Plus I can take it off quick and easy.
