Why ask why...that rig is friggin SAWEET!!!

Paul, how did all of this work out?
I'm planning on doing a similar mod to my 72 project 40, only adding 8" and stretching the wheelbase 18" so it's the width of an 80 and the length of a 43, and importing a JDM diesel and 5 speed. My plan was to cut and add the extra width down the centerline, though.
Do you have any tips on this subject? if I were to just go the lazy way, how much would a widened tub from you cost?

beautiful job!!!!!

that looks perect. Any more shots from under the hood and stuff?

Motor is B diesel, all running gear is standard has ford explorer power steering.
took about 1260 hours to make it,
If you look at the inside fenders you'll see the difference in size,
I'll take some snaps with it parked against a standard 40, so you guys can see better the size of it.
It's great to drive, I'm not really a fan of the b diesel, would prefer a V8, but we built this pretty much with time and not any money, so we used what we had.

After I saw that widened and stretched lv of milners I knew that we could do a better job, there was some many cracks etc in the bondo and glass that I knew we could make a better one and all out of metal..lacking the $$$ of the big boys.
So this basically is a stepping stone to maybe doing an LV which currently sits in the shop
We're going to restore this LV and proberbly if there is some serious interest re produce a new lv body completely to be mounted on a 80 frame.
While we're doing this LV we'll possibly re produce the rear qrt sections, door skins, rear sills, body supports etc much depends on how much interest there is.
The whole cowl is custom made, note the 5 louvres, we tried to put in as much detail as there is on a standard 40 into the cowl, and no we do not need a heater down here, so we ommited the holes for it.
Please excuse the yellow "trim" on the motor.!! My man seems to think that it goes faster if it's painted yellow.
Best wishes to all.

Finally, someone who ain't gonna wait around for Toyota to build a retro LV :bounce2: Ever since I saw Millen's LV, I knew I wanted to build one. This would definitely be easier than finding an old LV, junking the drivetrain & horse buggy suspension, & reinstalling an up to date powertrain. Not to mention the 80 chassis already has coils, so that's a huge bonus. Now on the interior, you could keep the old skool LV look, or like Millen did, redo the interior more modern style & keep the FJ 80 dash components.

Just thinking out loud...why not use a 3rd gen 4Runner frame for the new "LV"or maybe Troopy?

This would save some 80s from being destroyed, and if I am not mistaken, the 3rd gen 4Runner was built on the Prado chassis, so there is an LC lineage...at least this is what I've read. Also, it would be much easier, for me at least, to find a 3rd gen to build on

Yes, you are correct about the 3rd gen deriving from the Prado, but why would you want the IFS? Other than the little 8" reverse ring gear in the 80 front, it has the solid axle *we want. I haven't seen many 3rd gens in the "Parting Out" section, but it's always full of 80's.

Agreed...was just thinking out loud, and looking at options.
I believe it would be easier to SAS a 3rd gen, than for me to find a decent 80 to work on... there are more 3rd gens out there to play with, and too many 80's being parted out

The hood vain??
Did not look right with the original , so we made another a tad wider..
As are the seats..Did not even think about adding an extra wiper, that would look good..not going to do it now though.
I'm really not a fan of the 4runner and Prado, Seen quite a few down here with frame damage, I much prefer the more solid drive from the 80 and the diff at the front.
Anyway, Please keep you input comming..
Thanks.
Paul.

Sweet.

Not so noticeable from the front, but it sure is from the rear.

Any "in progress" photos?

And I like the idea of making one 43 length.

I second the in progress request! This on an 80 chassis would be nice. Not Icon nice, but nice!

Paul-

You amaze me......

AWESOME

If I convince my wife to go to Costa Rico on vacation, can I leave her at the beach and come be slave labor for you for a few months?

Awesome attention to detail! Looks great!
