Anyone done it? I think it would be a good addition to my 69. Do the later model fan clutches match up for bolts?

No. The fan clutch will not bolt to your waterpump flange. If you got the waterpump flange off a fanclutch waterpump, you could make it work. If you have enough room. (Won't work on a 55)

Why do you think it would be a good 'addition'? If it is an UPGRADE from the 4 blade metal fan, well then....ANYTHING is a good upgrade from that timebomb.

IF you're doing it to net more horsepower/speed, you're on the wrong path. You'll find the internal vibrations of the F are just as bad without the direct drive fan as with it, so you won't be any more likely to drive any faster.

If you're doing it for more efficient cooling, you're also on the wrong path. How could a part time fan cool better than a full time one?

I have retro-fied later model cruisers to run with direct drive fans, so perhaps I am biased. But the rigs I build and drive spend a fair amount of time in the desert, where maximum cooling is important.

I was thinking it would be good for water crossings. One of my annual trip we do 3-4 deep water crossings and this will be my first with the new LC. With a clutched fan I figured I had less chance of water stopping the blades and breaking the belt.

im not exactly sure but the clutch fans on my trooper and accura look like the old style bolt pattern.when crossing deep water we take the fan belt off .its a pain but better than destroying a radiator.also 80s volvo has a clutch fan with the right pattern but has to be drilled in the back to fit the waterpump hub.when all is said and done listen to mark.

I did my 40 when I did the power steering install. I had 60 series parts, pulleys, fan, clutch, alt bracket ect. Changed to a new later water pump so all bolted up. (Early has a different bolt pattern than later for the fan/clutch) Of course the fan shroud wouldn't work. All worked out well, but I just did it for the alt relow and extra pulley grooves...
