Um, what vehicle / engine ?

oops. just got a 94 toyota 4runner with blown head gasket. bearing is noisy on the fan bracket. is there a bearing you can buy to replace it, or do you have to get the whole unit?
now I gotta find someone to weld the head where it eroded the water jacket into the metal ring on the head gasket. not fun. bought this to fix and drive back home, not going so well. need to make a 2000 mile drive first of the week. always something.

Do you mean this is making noise?

That's the fan clutch... replaceable

There is a bearing inside this pulley (see picture below) that I'm pretty sure is replaceable... It may come already in a new pulley... That's probably what you are talking about...

If you have the V6... I don't remember now, oops... it may look a little different.

Nope, the V6 is totally different than the 22RE. I know exactly what bearing/bracket he's talking about, having done several timing belts on this engine. The bad news is that that part is VERY expensive to buy new, like $350 or so. And I don't think you can just swap out the bearing, it's a complex assembly. You *might* be able to find one in a junkyard on in the Wanted section.

BTW Jarod, yeah there is a bearing under that pulley, it's in the water pump.

yep its a v6. its that part the fan clutch bolts to. probably put some good lube in there, and run the belt loose. might even take off the belt if it gets bad enough. won't hurt on the highway. when I get home i'll get a shorter belt to run the ps and just run an electric fan on it. its got the crappy full circle fan blade anyhow.

Not a good idea to pull the belt. I do believe the alternator shares this pulley.
You need a FAN IDLER BRACKET here's one on eBay for about $70.

Good luck

I have replaced two of these brackets, both times the bearing failed, locking up the pulley and melting the belts off, making a mess and scaring the driver.
I tried removing the bearing once and determined the bracket is not made to be serviced, not by me anyway...

I get them from NAPA Auto Parts. I think the bearing is $15 or so. The part number is stamped on the bearing so I just brought that in to the people at the counter. There is a c-clip that holds the bearing in place, once removed the bearing should just fall out. Depends on how much rust is in there with it.

Uhhh.. maybe I should have read the whole post first. I'm talking about the bearing on the 22R motors... Oops.

Oh, i'm currently in chandler AZ, if anyone has parts or anything. thanks.

I replaced mine, IIRC got it from BAP Imports (AZ parts chain), they had a pretty good price on it.
