Note the 75558 for LH.

The LX's I've seen have the same mounts in the roofline as LC... the drip rails expose certain mount points for a given OE rack.

in the absolute the LC part works on the LX but if you are planning the OE "two footer" rack the slots will be incorrectly positioned for those mounts. Some LX have 2 footer mounts per side others have 3 footers. All of the OE LX racks are shorter than LC.

Since these are port install there is not a huge consistency in which rack you might have.

I don't know much about the roof drip other than what I did to mine to make it work with the LC Gobi Roof rack. I put some more detail on this thread. New member and LX intro - AZ

1. Is the Torx bit 30 or 40?

I'm surprised this question has not popped up more often in this thread (even if it's old one). I own a 2001 LC and I bought the T30 bit and it was too small. The T40 was the correct bit size, for my roof rack anyway. If you're on the fence and you don't have a Torx set, buy the T30 and T40 bits and return whichever is not needed. The thread was helpful however and I removed my rack in little time. Might be the lazy route but I just covered up the screw holes with electrical tape - not much rain in Southern California these days.. Looking to repaint and re-install but I actually do like the appearance sans rack.

Here's a pic from my thread and roof rack removal. Its 40 torx bit.

Thanks for the info! I briefly scrolled thru your thread but will look it over in detail. My rack will only be removed for a few days so I'm not concerned about anything entering the holes in the roof. Being garaged and in the dry so cal heat there's little chance of anything more than a spider getting into the screw holes.

Reason why, the instructions given on page 1 is for the '98 LX470. There are at least 5 different racks... similar but different.

I'm slowly learning that there are small nuances between the years and will certainly dedicate more time to research moving forward.

I was inspired by this thread (and because my new Rhino rack just arrived!!) this weekend and took my rack off. I have a 2004 LC with three pillars and the rack mounted to the roof with 12mm bolts. Besides getting the plastic covers off – where I consequently broke most of the tabs off – the job was a piece of cake.

I don't need the rack or crossbars anymore and do not plan on keeping them around. Anyone want the kit? Just a heads up: two of the screws that secure the pillar to the parallel load bar are stripped. The other six heads were snapped off by my drill. The screws rusted themselves in and need to be drilled out. The crossbars are a-ok. Send me a PM if you want it all. FREE.

Ok, guys not wanting to beat a dead horse but on a 98 Landcrusier after i have the four corners unbolted and loose the middle supports will come loos after sliding the rack backwards about 1/2 inch? The centers is the only areas i had not figured out how to get loose.

when you get all corners loose and bolts out just give it a good wiggle it will come right out no problem

got it, thanks. I had to actually push this one forward and the two middle studs came loose from the supports. This group is awesome. saved me time messing around.

With a little help from this thread and my nine year old son, I removed my roof rack, sanded, cleaned it, painted it Rustoleum "Flat soft Iron". Then re-installed it. Now it matches my grill that I did last week. I will try to post a better picture later.

That bolt seems bigger than T30, I tried to use the T30 and wound up stripping the bolt.

Is it? AUGH...

I amended the instructions to note such variations in roof racks.

Even on my '98 with the correct T30, I stripped a rusty bolt. It was found in a pool of water. I had to trim the mount around it and used a vise grip to remove the bolt.

I'm a bit lost with all the variations. I wonder if someone with a better grasp can validate my "plan".

I have a 2001 with two mounts per side. I'd like to upgrade the strength of my rack on the cheap. My plan is to purchase a used oem 3 mount per side rack, but also keep my old crossbars for a total of 4 crossbars. I figure between extra feet and extra crossbars, that would be a nice strength upgrade.

However I know the crossbar widths can vary across the different styles. Can anyone tell me which years LC have 3 mount racks that will fit my 2001 AND have compatible crossbars?

Also, if anyone knows of any for sale for reasonable price, I'm in the market.

Thanks!
