here is what i ended up with last night....
was going to make some shock hoops but after looking at it and were the box is it would have been some tight bending to keep it out of the pulley..
but here is some pics

here are them welded up ... u can see that i flipped my springs in the front...
3 inches forward... took the secondary leaf out and used the iron worker to punch out a new hole...

and it is tight... very tight... :wrench:

How'd the scout box work out? I've got a line on a 77 box... What year did you use?

it was a Scout 2 box so whatever year they made those .. will look at the marks again on it... was a 2 stamped on it if i remember... and FYI .. was around a $100 for box and pump...

turns the swampers easy with one finger...

Is that a flaming river shaft? Who did you get it from?

I need to source one, and the supliers I've been in touch with haven't got back to me.

How apx how long is it? How far is your axle moved forward?

Thx

it was out of an 83-84 2wd truck... found that off usedvic along time ago for $20 bucks

as said in the other thread you found.. shaft came from iron pig... i went to lejeune and they wanted almost $90 for the dd shaft... thats why i went with iron pig just to piggy back the pulley and shaft together.. for shipping that is

i used a 1/4 inch plate on the front of the frame and on the back of the frame and sleeved the holes with tube that are welded to the plates, to help prevent from crushing the frame from the steering box... and i used Grade 8 bolts to mount the steering box

drop pitman arm was off a jeep...
and the flaming river joint was a 13/16 spline to a 3/4 dd shaft.. that came from kms tools.. its easier to call the mainland and order than trying to get the store to order it for you... that was a gong show when i ordered it from the store and they lost the order... so called the mainland and had it transfered to the vic store and was only a day wait... go figure...
(there is two different sizes used for the scout box during that year 13/16 and a 3/4 spline.. so measuring your output shaft is essential. )

the conversion has worked with no problems... i did overfill it so when i took it out wheeling it did boil over at one point... but other than that no problems yet...

are you still collecting parts for the conversion? if you need help just let me know..

Still collecting parts. Kinda stalled at the moment. Have the Scout box. Have a pump, but the brackets are all wrong. Will also need new hoses or Adaptors.

West Shore was going to get me a price on a steering shaft, but that was months ago, and I've heard nothing. I also emailed a shop in Vancouver, but they've never got back to me. I kinda like the idea of getting the steering box Ujoint from a local shop, so I know it fits and don't end up with an expensive paperweight.

I've found some NAPA part numbers for Ujoints but I'm not optimistic I can get them here. For the most part, it's on the back burner... Family commitments have come first.

Thanks for the offer for help, I may just need some. If you happen to come across a pump for an earily Chev, lines, steering shaft parts, or anything else... Let me know.

I got the ujoint I needed from the local tractor store when I thought mine was dead.... turned out I didn't need it but it was only $14 (Turned out to be my saginaw box)

The hoses were pretty easy, I used the Russell lines that you can screw any ends you wish onto to allow me to go from a toyota pump to a saginaw box. The result is steering that is easy to one hand (Easier than my 2000 Dodge) but not quite the 1 finger steering that the full saginaw guys have.

In the return line I put a PS filter I got from rockauto.com and a auto trans cooler.

If you're going with a matching box/pump combination you can get the lines very cheap from rockauto.com.

Box is a Saginaw Scout box, and the P/S pump will be Saginaw... But not from a Scout.

The lines may be standard, but that's still an unknown. I'm expecting that it'll be one finger to turn the 33x10.50s when it's eventually put together.

The fitting on the pump and box will be either inverted flare or o-ring . you can buy adapters to an and just run jic hoses . (you can get them made at any hydraulic shop) The adapters are available at some lordco stores . Gotta look through their weatherhead and greenline bins a bit .

The box is inverted flare, and the stock pump for my 350 would also be inverted flare... Just need to find one.

Or build custom mount for the mid 70s pump I've got. I've got decent hoses, but the ends are a different size.
