I’did this today and found it works pretty good!
I removed the block drain and found zero flow. So naturally I picked at it with a 90 degree pick and got the black sediment mostly out and soaked with PB blaster. Still no flow. Made a hose filler/drain with a valve to shut the flow off and on. Poured the muriatic acid in through the end of the hose to loosen it from the outside and let sit. Then poured it in from the water pump hole and removed the temp sender. I used a silicone plug with a hole drilled in it for my blow gun to helpget it flowing. Here some pics…

On my old 40 I rinsed the Block out with clr. It worked pretty descent. My 80 series was horrible with brown hard sludge. I drained the block of all coolant. Filled it with 1 bottle of liquid cascade dishwasher detergent and then distilled water. Drive it for 2 days and drained it. I did that for 3 cycles and it was clear of all sediment. Sounds crazy but it was recommended to me by an ald school gas compressor mechanic. It worked great.

Thank you for the post. Very ingenious. After you let it sit, do you keep cycling the Miratic acid through the engine? The reason I ask, it seems as though you could rig up a pump and let the Miratic acid flow through the engine.

I suppose it would vary on how bad your block is. And yes a pump could be made into the cleaning. I just didn’t want to over complicate it and have to worry about flow and it spilling out of the front down the engine. I’ve read people sometimes have gone through 2-3 gallons to get there’s clean. I used 1 full gallon and kept flushing behind each fil up with water out of my zephyrhills water dispenser.
I got it flowing out of the drain in the back and was please enough with that. Maybe once it’s done I’ll try the liquid cascade in the closed system for a good one more time flush.

There's some info on hard core flushing in "THIS" thread.
