Expensive LC's in Australia - shipping?

I just spoke with a Japanese exporter. He said that some vehicles will meet the RAWS or whatever it is, but it is a certification that is model specific and each importer has to apply for raws for each vehicle, which makes it a pain in the ass and very expensive. I think that is simplified, but the bottom line will be that importers probably won't want the hassle - and it might be cost prohibitive.

And just curious, but is your shipping quote per m3 from Japan to AU, or Canada to AU?

There are many companies that ship to the west coast of North America, that is one I had listed when I was looking for a later model motor.I believe drive on drive off is cheaper.

i just called a shipper today to get a price for shipping a truck from sydney oz to vancouver canada. (the opposite direction, but wtf, should be the same).
the family has used this company before, to send junk to oz, and the prices have gone up, but they are good.
for a lwb landcruiser $4400 aud, and $640 aud to clear through customs.
this was for a container, the guy told me "it's cheaper than ro/ro".
plus tax, duty etc... but, plus side for me, sydney is where i'll be, and vancouver is close enough, and it's a container. can you say spare parts?
if you want some more info, email or give me a call at home.

Thanks guys, it's clearly going to take a lot of thought...the most compelling argument not to bring it was made by Roscoe...hundreds of LC's for sale....

I don't mean to be a naysayer, but I wouldn't expect the shipping rates to be the same either direction. I know from experience with even intra-provincial shipping of automobiles, one direction is typically cheaper, being that it is in less demand.
Also, in my limited experience with overseas shipping, ro/ro is MUCH cheaper than a dedicated container for your vehicle. However, if he says otherwise it may not be with his company.

well the 15 year rule is out so you cant use that option, but there is some claus's under the new sevs legislation. basicly becuase we in australia dont reali import LC's here it means that you could import one quite easily under the new low import seen, where they put a cap on the amount of vehicles comming in here.
the other option for you since you are comming here in 07
you will love it here is to buy one in Japan and put it into storage for 6 months. we have a rule where you can import any car here if you have owned it for more than 6 months it can come here without restriction.
so buy one in japan, get it into storage for 6 or more months and then ship it over here and enjoy.

I am looking at getting a cruiser when I am down on Brisbane in a few weeks, and I have been looking for the last several weeks. The New Cruisers are certainly a lot of money but used ones vary quite a bit and they are pretty nice. I posted in another post the two that I am looking at, I will probably wait until I get down there but they are both 92' with 200k in good shape one is a troopy with camper top and they other is 75 series pickup both are around 10k USD. My wife is already down there and she has seen better deals around the Brisbane areas. My advise would be buy something down there that you can not get in Canada.
I can tell you there are far more used ones for sale in the Sydney area than most other places, lots of wagoons and pick/ups where I have seen more troopy's and pickups in the western part.
As far as shipping my father in law shipped and aniverary addition Mustand down to oz last year and it was 6k USD (don't know the details) however it had to go to the shop right from the dock to be converted to right hand driver (22k AUD) also a few things that they will make you do if you bring one in is have the A/C evaculated it must also be changed over to the international standard stuff so no R-11 or R-134A it is something else.
