Front e locked axle

rear e locked FF

Ok, so heres my plan for rusty... since im tired of seeing the disappointed faces staring at me when yall ask me my plans and i say "I have no idea" hahaha.

The build will probably go something like Nicks 80, since its pretty damn badass and I'm lazy and hes already made a build thread that i can just follow :o

-Swap any parts to make the woody super kewl (e lockers, FF, dual bats, etc)
-Sell the interior bits and things
-Cut the body OFF either at the A pillar or B pillar.
-Bobbed (perhaps dove tailed?) cage keeping the F + R seats and stay as close to the body line as possible (think, wire framed 60)
-Axle swap. Either toyota + longs or one tons (input appreciated)
-Keep it low, relatively low SOA or maybe just the 2" OME lift it has now and bend the frame out of the way so it can flex
-cheap 37s
-lunchbox lockers
-whatever else y'all can convince me i need!

This build will not be something i start soon, i got tons of stuff to learn and literally dozens of dollars to make before i even think about this stuff. I want this to be as low budget as i can keep it, but still be safe and sort of reliable.

Commence with the comments :flipoff2:

This is gonna be fun!!

Definitely do a SOA, because it will flex A LOT better...

I never got to wheel with Patrick (4x4 Customs) that much, but I was always impressed with the way his truck articulated, yet he was very stable. His truck was SOA in the rear and SUA in the front. He had lifted leaf springs in the front, must have been 4", and I think he ran 37" tires. No fenders in the front and the tub was high-lined in the back. Now I know we are comparing a 40 to a 60 series, but ....

What about something like this? :steer:

Now that is really cool! Has an IH Scout look to it. Unfortunately I think Rusty's body is already too far gone.

Too far gone for a trail rig? Have you seen my 40?

less body than kling on's :D
but yeah, something like that!

wait, rusty? did you buy another rig or are you planning on chopping up woody?

awww yeaaa...

Throw some lockers in it and go. You can always trim, bob, cut, and upgrade components as needed.

It seems like the usual path is to wheel it like it is until the body is all beat up then cut it up and tube it out. I say cut out (har har) the middle man and just go franken-60. I do like those half doors though. And however you do the cage make sure you have a way to put a soft top or something on it.

Yeah Id like to try and draw up something this week to kinda get an idea of what I'd like to do.
There's a hj60 called "tencha" in the 60 series forum... That's what I'd love to do. I'll post a pic when I get to a computer.

BUT, the eventualness is sort of growing... I went to ACC today on the way home from johns and when I was leaving acc with my parts, woody wouldn't start for the first time ever, without me doing something stupid just before at least. Long story short, I need the distributor off rusty for now to make my DD run cuz they're too expensive to pay for right now :/

Here's Tapage's "Tencha"

That would be so cool if i could chop it, cage it, and stick some 40s under it just like tencha.

You don't even want to know what David has in Tencha.

Trust me.

i know i couldn't make it just like that, but sort of like that :hillbilly:

DO IT!! That is a bad@$$ 60. I am gonna have to find the build thread for that monster. Makes me want to find a 60 cheap and fire up the sawzaw and welder. I really like how he retained the front cab portion, like a 4 door 1st gen 4Runner. I will watch for this build with anticipation.

hey guys, i completely frgot about this build. rusty has gone to cruiser heaven... probably gonna scrap it once i take off all the parts i one day might need or want.
