Engine suddenly cut off

Strange issue: My LX470's engine suddenly cut off when I was driving around town. Everything, including temp, seems normal. No code. No light went on, and it happened so quick. I immediately restarted the truck and has been no problem.

Background: 1999 LX470 with 67K. Runs perfect from over one year ago when I bought it. Updated all the fluid, and new battery installed.

Don't know where to start. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Vincent
Check and clean the battery connections. I had this issue and fortunately, corroded battery connections were the problem.

I had my 100 stall on me at a traffic light stop, 70k miles. It happened 5 minutes after i disconnected and reconnected the battery. But i restarted it and it fired back up no problem. This is the closest explanation for my situation👍🏼

EFI fuse. I have been stuck and played with the engine fuse and BOOM started right up. The key is to check if you have the CHECK ENGINE light up, if you do, it will start up. It may take a while to play with the dam fuse until it lights up. Good Luck

I would start with Fuses and see.. or could have been immobilizer - EFI Relay. Check if EFI relay is good. Search for immobilizer issue as well.

If your are not getting anything IIRC some LC/LX owners had similar issue and had to swap out the whole fuse box to fix it.

I am getting warning lights on the dash but NOT the check engine light so that has to be the issue. EVERY fuse I can find is good... the EWD references several fusible links but I'm having trouble finding them.

In my experience the EFI fuse will need to be pulled put in a fresh fuse, helps to have someone sit in the drivers seat until they see the check engine light up, while you are moving the fuse around for the perfect contact. SUCKS, but it has worked for me couple times.

@BOGOTA - Where did u find the EFI fuse? Amazon? or online? or Toyota Dealership?

The EFI fuse under the hood? I replaced it but no change... I can hear relays click when I plug it in so I'm pretty sure it's working.

I did disconnect the battery for 5 mins and hooked it back up. I NOW have all the dash lights back but still no check engine light. When I turn the key, nothing

Check battery connections and charge. How many volts from the battery?

PICK: I bought it at local dealer LEXUS parts department while back, along with extra basic fuses in glove box. My car at 220k runs perfect BUT has that issue which i have to really solve instead of just band aiding it.

No real update, but I'm still after it. REALLY trying to resist the urge to just take it to the dealer and have them fix it. It's not a DD so I'm not in a rush but running out of ideas...

I charged the battery and it is 12.2v with the ignition on
I have quadruple checked EVERY fuse under the hood and by the driver kick panel
I replaced the EFI fuse; I pulled the EFI relay and hear 'clicks' when I unplug and plug it in
I checked the fusible links by the battery

When I turn the ignition on, I'm NOT getting the CEL. All the other warning lights are working and after the ECM reset, the dash backlights are now working again. It was running fine, stumbled/cut-off with what I think is the MAF issue explained earlier in the thread and then wouldn't restart. I really believe the stumble caused a low voltage condition that took something out. I. JUST. CAN'T. FIND. IT.

I have the '06 LX470 EWD but it's really not helping. It could really be written in Japanese and be the same amount of help. I can't find anything in there that points to an ignition failure that I can get to test. I'm going to try for a couple more days before succumbing to taking it in. Thanks for all the suggestions to date; if you have anything else - I'm all ears.

Fyi there is a second fuse panel in the passenger kick panel.
Did not know that was there; THANKS!! Those are the fuses I was looking for as well, Ignition, ECM and Theft. Unfortunately, they were all good. I even replaced all the 7.5 fuses in the start/ignition circuit just to make sure.

If I jumper the start relay (red box) the starter will turn over. If I put my test light across the coil, it won't light up when I turn the key. I pulled the console looking for the Park/Neutral safety switch but I really don't think that's it. I don't think that would keep the CEL from coming on, which is ultimately what I believe is causing the problem. More tinkering tomorrow and likely taking it in on Friday/Monday if I don't find it by then...

Thanks again for all the help!!

I charged the battery and it is 12.2v with the ignition on- that's key in acc position voltage- not running or cranking?

fix that first. I only read the last 5 posts.

if you do take it to a dealer and they see less than 12.6+ they will go down the battery alt road, then after that they'll come after you with the original problem, which will also not help you. The combined knowledge here outweighs any handful of dealerships.
