Hi folks,
New FJ60 owner. Just bought one in the last 6 months and it's been great. '85 FJ60 with an '89 engine with manual transmission. Everything has run perfectly, except in the last couple weeks I've had an issue with the engine lunging at first gear. Right as I let off the clutch and enter first the entire truck bucks almost as if it's going to stall out. It eventually settles out, but not after a series of violent shakes. Also, I find that if I push the clutch back in and skip it to second, it usually doesn't have the same problem. Any ideas?
I notice the problem in much smaller doses in other gears--but not nearly as much as getting going. I also notice that, if I push the gas in second or third gear, sometimes the engine will hesitate, and the acceleration will happen with a surge later. Is this issue related?
I must admit I'm a novice learner when it comes to engine components, so this could very well be an easy diagnosis. But I figured I'd take it to Mud before I took it to the shop!
Thanks!
