Oh wow, that was quick! Thanks Kirk, now I have to get on this project for you guys:) Those rubber grommets will be taken out so that you can bolt it down right? So the only issue I will have is the size of the bolt holes needed, can you give me a size of the bolt?

Yes, I agree that we will remove the rubber feet and maybe replace with rubber bushings with a hole through it. Hang on.

M8 x 1.25's look perfect. The same bolts that fill the holes from removing the factory roof rack.

Awesome, I will mess with aluminum and steel later at school to see what I can come up with:D

Sweet!

LJ, I would recommend seeing if you could fab feet that allow for vibration dampening when the compressor is running instead of directly hard mounting without the dampeners. My portable Viair compressor has a plate along the bottom that could be hard mounted, while retaining the vibration dampening. See photo in link:
VIAIR Corporation - 400P Part No. 40043

BTW, I am not saying to change compressor types, but to use this as an example of how you could retain vibration dampening, while mounting the compressor to the truck.

Definitely do not hard mount the compressor, that things do some serious vibrating while running. Over time you are just asking for some kind of vibration fatigue and something will give in the mount.

I say remove the stock rubber feet and come up with some kind of 1/4" rubber washer to go between mounting plate and compressor.

I had the same unit hard mounted in my FJC for a couple years. It was fine. Granted, I didn't use it often - or longer than it took to air up 4 tires. But it showed no sign of fatigue. Did get hot though ;-)

I just replaced that same unit with a Chicago Electric model. It was cheap (Harbor Frieght) and easy to install since I had the rest of the hardware in place. We will see how long it lasts..... Compressor number 3 in as many years.

However, I simply sliced four slots in the air filter box and threaded through a couple hose clamps. For this model I had to remove the silly red sheet metal and clamped directly around the motor. The ABS plastic air filter box absorbs all the heat and vibration well. I recommend a piece of metal on the inside of the box to reinforce it somewhat.

So did anything happen with this mounting plate?
