When I made the new instrument panel with VDO gauges I purchased this Hall Effect Speed Sender and I changed the drive shaft to one that would adapt the Hall Effect Speed Sender to a standard Toyota speedometer output. I pulled the old speedo cable to see if there was any interference and it fit with no mods to the existing ebrake or cable.

What is the part number?

I'm going the rotate the housing route, although in retrospect if I didn't already have the housing off and disassembled I'd get the 12 inch speedo cable from IPOR and relocate the sender to the frame rail.

If you rotate it 90* two of the holes will still line up (thus keeping the housing centered) and you only have to locate and drill two holes. We chose to sharpen 2 old 8mm bolt/studs to center punch the new holes by tightening down the 2 existing bolts. One of the new holes is a little close to the big nut (pivot point) on the exterior of the housing, but a little work with the die grinder should take care of that. Just gotta drill em out this week.

Not sure if this will work for ever vintage, but I had enough cable to go 90*, but not 180*.

I've lost the battery charger for my camera, but I'll try and get some pics this week.

Here is some updated info since this is a FAQ

BTB is still selling extended emergency brake cables:
BTB Products :: Off Road Chassis :: Brakes & Accessories :: PARKING BRAKE CABLE EXTENDED FJ40
These are eight inches longer than stock.

A relatively new option for electric speedos is this Marlin option.
New Product - Marlin Crawler Vehicle Speed Sensor
Quite affordable and unlike other options, it will easily fit behind a stock FJ40 transfer case parking brake. Just need a pigtail out of a junked Toyota to hook it up.

Easy enough just to build a bracket to secure both cables, a sleeve with a nut welded to one end for adjustment..

example pic: '78 40 under dash p/brake handle cable connected to a 60 rear axle cable.......

Following up on an old thread....

Wondering how this worked out & if you'd still recommend it ?

Said the brake couldn't be set even with a lot of force.

I'm considering doing something similar. Any info appreciated.
