Here is a picture of the plastic part (with an odd metal spiral core). One end of the post almost contacts the accelerator paddle and the other sticks into the engine bay. It seems to be an OEM part; the mounting holes align and the post matches the hole in the firewall. It looks as if something might have attached to the engine-side of the post as it's metal reinforced and has an irregular shape. What's strange is that my CA '78 should have the throttle switch but this piece actually prevents its installation. I can remove the piece and install the switch or cut off the engine-side post and install the switch. I prefer not to modify the part until someone can tell me what it really is. It's possible, but improbable, that a PO salvaged this from another FJ40 when he de-smogged the truck (which is now re-smogged). Any ideas?
