88 4runner. Replaced my alternator two months ago after the battery wasn't charging, Parking Break & Charge lights were on, and truck finally stalled.

Truck was running fine until two days ago the Charge light came on and the fuel gauge, temp gauge, and turn signals all failed. Truck drove fine and didn't stall, but the battery fully discharged and the truck will not start now.

I checked the fuses and they all seem fine. Took out the alternator and had it tested and kragen tells me it's perfectly fine and that I can't exchange it because the warrenty says that it has to fail their test.

I did not find anything in a search. Any one have any clues or can you point me to a place with answers?

Thanks

Did you just look at the fuses? they can sometimes look fine but be blown. Test that you have power on both sides of each fuse (while they are installed, with the Runner on), then go after the fusable links. In the FAQ thread stickied at the top of this section, there are a few links to factory service manuals (Go to the one that you can look at online), it will school you on the fusable links.

The answer was simple...

GOT IT!!!

I was doing research on fusible links and came accross a site that dicusses the locations of fuse boxes in a 4runner. I thought there was just one, the one under the hood next to the battery. But there are two more, one behind the driver's side kick panel and one behind the glovebox.

I had a blown fuse in the fuse box on the driver's side. Replaced it and now all the instrument panel gauges are working and the alternator is charging.

Thanks
